Interaction Design Assessment (This assignment constitutes 40% of the overall assessment.) Case Study: The ongoing CoVid-19 pandemic has caused many businesses and industry sectors to re-evaluate their operations in light of the disruption caused by the lack of manpower and supply flows. In the traditional manpower-heavy sector of real estate and built environment, many organizations are now turning to the use of artificial intelligence (A.I.), smart technologies, and the use Internet of Things (IoT) devices to supplement or replace human workers. For example, real estate developers such as GuocoLand are now turning to drones equipped with thermal scanners paired up with sophisticated A.I. routines in order to conduct building inspections. Government agencies such as the Housing Board and JTC are also using images and pictures captured by drones to visually inspect buildings and identify which ones are in need of preventative maintenance. Other interesting uses of digital technology include using cameras attached to a few human workers in order to re-create a 3D virtual replica of a construction site so that construction managers can remotely monitor the progress without having to be physically present. In existing buildings, there have been smart meters and IoT devices installed which would allow control and monitoring of utilities within the building such as lights in difficult-to-reach areas, as well as smart water meters measuring the water usage of the building’s inhabitants. Smart homes are also beginning to incorporate fall sensors and computer vision systems in homes for the elderly, to alert family members if the resident experiences a fall. There are also cleaning robots such as the Roomba included to reduce the human labor required for cleaning and maintenance of the house.

P23001: Auditing The U.K. arm of Deloitte got a record fine from Britain’s accounting watchdog in September. With the full judgment against the firm laid bare last week, you can see why. If there was ever proof that auditors can get too close to their clients, it’s the accounting giant’s handling of former U.K. technology darling Autonomy Corp. Deloitte LLP wrongly gave a clean bill of health to Autonomy’s accounts for 2009 and 2010. These financial statements misleadingly suggested the revenue from shifting hardware came from software, while related costs were inappropriately classified as sales and marketing expenses, the U.K.’s Financial Reporting Council argued. That helped sustain the impression that Autonomy was a fast-growing, high-margin “pure software” business — a perception that was critical to its stock-market rating. The group was subsequently acquired by HP Inc., which later took a jumbo impairment charge and alleged Autonomy had committed fraud.”
