Question: There is an increasing push for health care professionals to become specialists. Along with specialization, often the same professions believe that we need to “credential” practitioners (i.e., board certification) those who wish to provide services to the public and present themselves as a specialist. The pattern of specialization and credentialing has a long history and has been developed and advanced most in the field of medicine (i.e., medical doctors).
