Based on the reading and planning you have done so far for this assignment, provide BRIEF details of the following aspects of your proposed research. The aim is for you to be able to use the details on this form as prompts for your explanation of the research to others. You therefore don’t need to write full details, just a summary or initial thoughts relating to each area. Use the assignment brief document for guidance as to what to include in each section.

Section B

During the tutorial, take turns to use the information in Section A to briefly explain to your group the details of your research proposal. Use the box below to keep a record of any questions asked by your reviewers during or after your initial explanation.

Questions:

.

Other students will then consider the questions below and discuss their answers with you.

  1. Did you understand what was being proposed and why?
  2. Was it clear which samples would be required and how they would be obtained?
  3. Are the proposed techniques likely to provide data that could answer the question/test the hypothesis/achieve the aim?
  4. Does the proposed project sound feasible? Or is it likely to be too time consuming, impractical, unethical, too complex etc.? If so, discuss why.
  5. What were the most well planned aspects of the proposal?
  6. What are the key areas that should be worked on to improve the proposal?

Listen to their comments carefully and think about or discuss how you could use their feedback to improve your proposal. For example, if something wasn’t understood (even if you thought it was obvious!), you might want to explain it more clearly in your final report. If they say your proposal is too complex, think about how you could make it simpler or more focused, both in terms of what is being proposed and/or how you have explained it. If they mention things you haven’t considered yet, think about the further reading you may need to do. If you disagree with a comment, you could expand the justification of your own opinion in your report to strengthen your argument.

Use the space below to record new ideas/tasks and potential improvements to consider making to your proposal as a result of the discussions. It is possible that some of the comments you have made to others may also be applicable to your own research proposal so don’t forget to include these too if necessary.
