Before starting this lab assignment, be sure to read the chapter in the text on mixed methods research. In particular, focus on how quantitative and qualitative methods can complement one another in research design.
Under “Data Analysis Tools”, select “Dynamic Tools” and then “Prisoner Recidivism Analysis Tool – 2005.” On the “Analysis” tab, explore recidivism rates based on different demographic, criminal history and sentence variables. Click on “Generate Results” to display the results.
Based on the data generated from your selections, propose a hypothesis. Specify the independent and dependent variables. Summarize the results of your analysis. Next, propose a qualitative complement to this research.
Create an interview schedule of at least five open-ended questions. Who would you sample? Why? How could the respondents’ perspectives enhance your quantitative findings?
