1. Using Orwell’s 1984, prepare a reflection about the ways in which Orwell’s novel mirrors the modern world. How eerie are his predictions? Where exactly do we see those predictions come true? Which of his theories were incorrect or ill-timed? In other words, did he “get anything wrong” in his assumptions about the future? Explain your answers with details. (30 Points)
2. Consider the major themes (lessons or points) put forth in our readings this semester. Choose one theme that you feel reflects the sentiment of much of the readings this term. Explain that theme, its relevance to the modern reader, and discuss its development in at least three of the works read and discussed this semester. (35 points)
3. We have discussed many cultural factors that can ultimately shape a literary period. Which literary period do YOU believe was most influenced by its’ times? What was happening during this period? How did these events affect the works of at least two writers (works studied this term) from this literary period? (35 points)
