You are the IT manager for a small business that prints custom T-shirts. You have a single facility which combines production, marketing, order receipt, billing, and shipping. You employ 5 people full-time on the floor and have another 6 employees who handle bookkeeping and finance, production management, sales, and personnel. Your business depends on the World Wide Web. Orders are received through a website developed in-house and located on an ISP that is located in another state. Orders are received via email transactions from the website. Payment is handled via Paypal or credit card transaction. Your site has a local-area network with 14 nodes. The silk-screen printing system is also controlled via a computer attached to the network.
These nodes include:
CEO system (1)
IT systems (2)
Finance/book-keeping systems (1)
Sales/Marketing/Web systems (2)
Personnel system (1)
Production management systems (5)
File and program server (1)
Backup storage server (1)
Assume that the systems and servers are all based on the MS Windows platform.
You will develop a series of incident response plans that address each of the following incidents:
Power failure
Denial-of-Service attack
Fire
Burst water pipe
Each IRP will have a section describing what you will do (a) before the incident, (b) during the incident, and (c) after the incident. Each IRP will also explain what is done by the IT department (Tech services), and what is done by non-IT employees (users).
Look at the example on page 519 figure 10.8 of the textbook for guidance.
I am expecting 1-2 pages (minimum, double-spaced) per incident.
Be sure to have section headers for the introductory section, each incident section, the Appendix, and any references.
Include a Title Page with the group name and the names of all group members, and an introduction that explains what you are doing and why contingency plans are important (approx. 1 page). Also, include an appendix listing the work done by each group member. If you list any references, be sure to cite those references in your text.
Note: In most cases, you may want to provide additional information to help support your plans. So, for example, if you wish to state that the printing area is on the ground floor and the management offices are on the second floor, you should mention that. That would impact the plan if, for example, a water pipe burst on the production floor. Begin each set of plans with additional information as needed.
Important points:
Be sure that the entire group reviews all of the work of each of the group members. The most common error with a group problem is when group delegate the work to members and then fail to get together to review the work. If a single group member misses the mark, it can greatly affect your grade!
If you have any confusion on what is required, you must contact your professor for guidance!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
It is reasonable for the group to divide and delegate the work. However, it is required that the group then get together and review all work for quality before the work is submitted! This is a requirement of all group projects! Failure to do so could severely impact the entire group grade if a member misses the mark on the completed work.
All group members must participate in each project in order to receive credit. If a group member did not participate, it is the responsibility of the group to bring this to the attention of the professor.
Please use the rubrics in this document to evaluate your project before submitting it!
