Scenario:
You are developing a business application that allows software developers to form “quality circles”. These circles allow experts and stakeholders from different departments of the company to connect and discuss quality issues – software bugs, poor usability, lacking features that clients want, etc.. In a circle, there might be representatives from programming, UX design, marketing quality, etc. to discuss specific quality issues. Here are the use cases that are desirable and of interest to us:
• Form a quality circle by assigning a name to the quality issue, a description, date started, and inviting stakeholders from various departments
• Monitor the progress of a particular circle
• Message the circle
• Message another member of a circle.
• Post events talks such as scholarly talks on innovation in the field, etc.
Here are some personas in order to help you with the rest of the test.
• Jose, a UX designer, who wishes to be aware of quality issues in order to create better designs
• Harpreet, a marketing professional, who is concerned with advising business clients of improvements to quality and fixes / patches to software products. Harpreet has low vision.
• Jan, who is a software developer, who develops the code for products and often needs to implement patches – they want to know the history of product revisions at the company
• Samir is a usability tester, whose tests often reveal usability problems with products.
Part I – Use Cases (20 marks)
Prepare a use case diagram for the application that includes all of the use cases listed in the scenario. (10 marks)
Develop a use case description for the following use case (so you do not have a choice):
Form a quality circle by assigning a name to the quality issue, a description, date started, and inviting stakeholders from various departments
You will need at least two forms (screens) in order to do this: one for the basic information about the quality issue and the other that allows the user to select the stakeholders to be invited.
(10 marks)
Part II – Content Plans (20 marks)
Develop content plans for the use case description you developed in Part I. Assume that these are for a laptop design (not a phone).
Part III – Prototypes (20 marks)
Develop prototypes (screens) using JustInMind for the content plans developed in Part II. Assume that these are for a laptop design (not a phone).
Part IV – Accessibility, WCAG 2.0 and AODA (5 marks)
For the prototypes you have developed, explain a strategy for making the use case more accessible for Harpreet – a person with low vision. What are two things that could be done to make the use case more accessible. (You do not need to implement these items – simply explain them).
Part V – User Experience, Interaction Design and Cognitive Psychology (5 marks)
Here is a short list of Dr. Susan Weinschenk’s principles of software design:
- People Don’t Want to Work or Think More Than They Have To
- People Make Mistakes
- People are Social
How you might address two of them in your prototype designs for the scenario specified above? Note that an insightful explanation is expected for this question.
