ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE:
For your first Photoshop assignment, you will be creating an Instagram post using
everything we have learned including:
• Elements of Design • Principles of Design
• Design Tension • Colour Theory
• Typography • Brush Tool
• Eraser Tool • Shape Tool
• Move Tool • Adjustment Layers
• Gradient • Type/Text Tool (Horizontal/Vertical
• Transform (Scale, Rotate and Free Transform) • Paint Bucket Tool
•
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Complete and answer all of the areas in the Instagram Post Worksheet on Slate in Content/
Assignments/PS Practice 1: Instagram Post
• When selecting your colour scheme ensure that one of your chosen colours is Violet
• NOTE: Different colour schemes have different numbers of colours. For example,
a complimentary colour scheme has two colours where a triadic colour scheme has
three colours.
2. Download exercise file “PS Instagram Post.psd” on Slate in Content/Assignments/ PS
Practice 1 and open in Photoshop.
• Choose the layers you would like to work with and delete or hide any unused layers
by dragging them into the trash or making them invisible
• Create an attractive design using the colour scheme, caption, headline, copy, design
tensions and font categories/families and font names identified in your Instagram
Post Worksheet
• Create a background colour or gradient (background cannot be white) which makes
your product stand out (remember that the background should not take away from
the product but compliment it)

3. Appropriate image use:
• You can use multiple images which have been provided to you in the file
“PS Instagram Post.psd”
• You can create images yourself within Photoshop by using the shape tool
or brush tool
• You cannot use any additional photos, drawings or clip art found online
• You cannot use your own photography
4. Include the following elements:
• Create a shape using the shape tool to ad another design element to your post
• Use the brush tool to ad another design element to your post
5. Final Submission:
• Save your file as a Photoshop (.psd) file with all layers in tact (not flattened)
• Also include a JPEG (.jpg) file with your submission
• Also ensure you submit your completed Instagram Post Worksheet
