Students will observe social behaviors at a chosen location for a specified amount of time, take field notes, practice coding, and write a formal report detailing the methodology and an interpretation of findings.
Observation: Choose a location. Identify a specific, publicly observable behavior and spend 2 one-hour sessions observing the behavior.
Since we are still experiencing a significant increase in COVID cases and in many instances, government ordered lockdowns, we need to modify this assignment.
For the observation, I want you to use your families to complete this assignment. This means the location is your homes. You could observe a mealtime interaction. Moreover, you could observe children playing. In addition, you could observe the effects of social media consumption on children. If you are observing children under the age of 18, please do not use any identifying information. Also, only observe and report on publicly acceptable behaviors.

Naturalistic Observation 100 Points Students satisfy four of the four criteria: 1) Students identify publicly observable behavior, i.e., behaviors appropriate for public. 2) Students provide evidence of identifying time and location. 3) Students describe process of taking field notes. 4) Students discuss process of coding field notes and their use in the write-up.
The papers do not have a specified length but it is reasonable that will sufficiently support, analysis, and explanation they will likely be 3-4 pages. The most important criteria are listed in the rubric.
