I’m looking for build a convincing argument that demonstrates a practical approach to the use of consumer level drones for military public affairs purposes to gather imagery. Specific direction and DOD policy has prevented the use of drones (DJI, PARROT, etc) due to security concerns of their foreign origins. The policies as they stand serve as a blanket prevention for their use. I want to articulate why public affairs officers should be able to capture photo/video using drones the same way they use any other camera (NIKON and Sony are foreign companies also) assuming that the operators follow FAA guidelines and stay within the bounds of operational security.
