Specific task instructions
The tasks in the case studies below will be used by the teacher/assessor to determine whether you have satisfactorily completed each case study scenario. Use these instructions and criteria to ensure you demonstrate the required knowledge and skills.
Scenario
Congratulations! You have secured an internship working with the highly sought-after events agency, The Event Co.
The Event Co. is a leading events and live entertainment company with a specialised focus on conferencing, community events and festivals. The agency provides services across all event operations, fundraising, travel coordination and volunteer management. Please see The Event Co. company profile.
As an ‘intern’, you will work across all areas of the agency and be fully involved in many different types of events over the one-year period. At the end of the internship you will have a substantial portfolio of work, showcasing your extensive event experience (across all units).
As part of your induction, The Event Co. would like you to gain an overview on the event industry. Your supervisor, Coco Jones – Internship Coordinator, has asked you to research information on the event industry that will be used in upcoming staff and volunteer training. This will also be helpful for you to gain an insight to the event industry.
Part 1: Event industry research task
In this part of the assessment, you will research:
- General information about the event industry and how it can be applied in the workplace.
- Event trends, issues and technology.
- Employment in the event industry.

Event industry overview
Read and answer each question below. Your answers should be up to 150 words [for each question].
- Research a definition of event management. Summarise it in your own words.
| Event management is the application of synchronising an event successfully with the use of necessary and appropriate tools and devices to meet the client’s satisfaction. Event managers oversee planning, promoting and organising a range of events meeting the target audience’s expectations. Event management revolves around communication, organisational skills, problem solving, negotiating and budgeting and the process of multitasking. In recent times, the event industry has adapted to new techniques and approaches towards events and clients, regarding use of technology, creativity and appropriate accessibility to meet the “wow factor” for every individual involved. Events need to be accurately scoped to determine measures for both the client and the audience. |

The events industry is highly regulated. At The Event Co., we need to ensure that we and our future events are meeting regulatory requirements. Coco Jones would like you to research the basics of quality assurance, environmental and social sustainability, licensing, government regulations and consumer law. She has also asked you to look into the regulations as they apply to festivals to further assist with the report to management.
