As noted earlier, this first unit covers introductory issues related to criminal involvement. One such issue deals with the correlates of criminal involvement, and a person’s gender is one of the strongest correlates—crime is substantially more common among males than it is among females.
For this week’s discussion, I want you to consider why this is the case. Draw from the reading assignments to consider some of the factors that you see as most important for explaining male-female differences in crime. (And if you think that there are important factors that were neglected in the reading material, feel free to note that).
Also, do you see these differences between male and female rates of crime as something that likely will persist over time? Or alternatively, will there come a time when males and females commit crimes at roughly similar rates?
[One key recommendation: Be sure to clearly incorporate the reading material into your posts. Although this discussion question asks for your opinion, you need to present your opinion in the context of key facts and themes that emerge in the readings].
These initial postings are expected to be approximately 3-4 paragraphs, but the most important issue will be content—your posting should answer the question that was posed, directly cite the reading materials, and be clear, organized, professional, and well-written. Be sure to answer all parts of the question.
Make sure that there is content regrading the reading in the answer. I will attach the pdfs of the readings. No other sources can be used.
