In this assignment, you will work in a team together with three of your peers to identify a business or organisation that at least one member of the team has a close interaction with. This might be as customer, an employee or a committee member. Your task is to identify, model and enhance one of its business processes, while considering the context in which the business operates and the impact of any changes.
Step 1: Form teams
Get organised into a team of three or four. You will be asked to form into teams of three or four in be working For this assignment, you will have the option to complete a Team Charter within this discussion activity.
Step 2: Identify a business or organisation
As a team, identify a business or organisation that at least one team member has a close interaction with, e.g. as a customer, an employee, or a committee member.
Step 3: Identify a specific business process
In your team, identify a specific process that is core to the business, e.g. a transaction, an analytical activity, a supply chain process, a customer management process, an IT help request etc. It is best if you have beendirectly involved with the process.
Step 4: Examine the business context and process
In your team, answer the following questions, using the identified weeks as a guide:
- Business: Why does the business exist? What does it do? Why? How core is digital technology to the business? Is it central to strategy, to operations, both or neither? (Week 1, 2)
- Tech sector: How does the business relate to the tech sector, i.e. is it part of the tech sector? If so, which part? If not, does it just use services from the tech sector? (Week 4)
- Process: What process are you focusing on? How would you categorise it, and what part of the business does it relate to? (Week 3)
- Model: Model the process using a 'swim lane' model: Who are the main actors and/or roles involved? What are the tasks and/or decisions involved? How do they flow?
- Data: What data is the process reliant on, i.e. core entities and attributes? (Week 7)
- Technology: What technology, e.g. networks, hardware, software, cloud, are required to enable the process? Create a simple architecture diagram (Week 5, 6)
- External service technology providers: Are external service technology providers used in the process, e.g. ERP, web services, outsourcing, offshoring? If so, who are they? If not, should they be? (Week 4, 5,
- Improvement opportunity: Based on your experience with the process, identify an improvement opportunity. Adjust your process model, annotate it, and explain any new data and technology requirements (Week 3, 5, 6)
- Systems development method: What systems development method would you suggest in order to implement the change? Why? (Week 8)
- Value, benefits and cyber security concerns: What value and benefits would the updated process deliver? What about concerns? Does your new approach open up any potential cybercrime, privacy, and security concerns? (Week 9, 11)

Report structure
Compile your answers in a slide deck, e.g. MS Powerpoint or Adobe Suite. The answer to each question should be presented on a single slide. The slide deck should therefore consist of 1 x cover slide, and 10 x content slides. You may use the notes section in the slide deck to provide supplementary information.
Presentation recording: In addition, your team should also make a 10-minute recording of the presentation, e.g. MS Powerpoint (narrated Powerpoint slides), Zoom recording, Adobe or a video link to platforms such as YouTube.
