Assignment objective: Your goal in this assignment is to analyze significant fire events and prevention methods utilizing scholarly resources and the theories presented in the unit. This will help you develop a deeper understanding of the practical applications of fire prevention theories discussed throughout our course and encourage critical thinking.
Details: Take the following steps to complete the Unit III Essay.
- Review the history of an organization (i.e., an organization where you serve or an organization that serves the community in which you reside) and identify a significant fire event that occurred within the jurisdiction.
- Conduct research, and identify the contributing factors associated with the outcome of the event.
- Review the “Historical Large Life-Loss Fire in the United States” discussed in Chapter 1 of the course textbook. Correlate the contributing factors associated with the “Historical Large Life-Loss Fire in the United States” and the significant fire event you identified.
- Describe how the five Es of fire prevention—education, economic incentives, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response—have been revised and/or applied to prevent similar events from happening in your area. If not, identify opportunities for application. Explain the general impact of the five Es on fire prevention.
- Explain the role of code enforcement in fire prevention and within the fire you identified.
- Discuss the impact of federal initiatives on fire prevention programs.
- Include a strong introduction. The term significant fire event is a relative term. The composition and scope of a community will, in part, define what a significant fire event constitutes. An incident that is considered a significant fire event in one community might not reach that threshold in a larger, more complex community. You should select a fire event that had a significant impact on the community/organization that you have chosen.
