This assignment includes two components:

  1. virtual poster presentation and
  2. written homework
  3. The homework is based on the attached document "CAUTIs".

Instructions:

1. 10-12 pages (excluding cover and reference page). Include:

o  Abstract

o  Background

o  Methods

o  Literature Review of the proposed change

o  Discussion (what was learned)

o  Proposed change implementation

o  Proposed methods to measure outcomes of the change

o  Recommendations for Practice change.

o  Conclusion and implications for nursing.

1.  Identifies the significant clinical problem and the intervention that will resolve the problem.

2.  Describe the problem (PICO the question and write as a statement), including the purpose and goal of the EBP review. Start with a global description of the importance of nursing and narrow your topic to the organizational level. Finalize with the purpose of the assignment. What are you trying to achieve?

3.  Explain the Background of your problem, the definition of the variables. Include any pertinent background and history pertaining to your problem or topic of interest and what has led you to believe this problem is of great significance to the nursing profession. The aim of this section is to help the reader understand the concepts and definitions of your topic of study.

4.  Identify your source and method for searching the evidence (keywords, databases, inclusion, exclusion criteria). Find the highest level of evidence first and then proceed methodically through the hierarchy of evidence to answer the focused question. Remember “Not all evidence is created equal.” That is, we can have more confidence in some types of evidence than in others. Just because the evidence you have maybe a study or a clinical guideline published by an organization does not mean that it is the best evidence (i.e., the most objective or the most trustworthy). Refer to the levels of evidence and explain in this section how do you searched and classify the evidence (Use the literature matrix). Why are you trusting the results?

5.  Include a review of the literature on your proposed change (intervention), practice guidelines, or other synthesis reports. Your assignment should serve as a synthesis of what is currently known about your change, and what is being investigated. Do not simply summarize each of your sources; rather, integrate the information presented, and come up with your own interpretation of the data (you may use tables in this section to summarize the evidence).

6.  Discuss, appraise and synthesize evidence. A critical review of all evidence that you will use to support your improvement efforts. Once the evidence is gathered, you must critically appraise each study to ensure its credibility and clinical significance. An easy method for conducting critical appraisal is to answer these three key questions:

7.  What were the results of the study? (In other words, what is the evidence?)

8.  How valid are the results? (Can they be trusted?)

9.  Will the results be helpful in caring for other patients? (Are they transferable?)

10. Include suggestions for improvement/change (Aim) to whatever it is you are researching. For example, If you are proposing policy changes to current urinalysis protocols, how will this policy impact the organization and stakeholders? Patient and/or population expected to benefit directly from improved flow or process. The risk of participation is the same as receiving usual care. If risk or burden is higher than with usual care, consider research & IRB.

11. State what EBP model will you use to plan for your project. What plans do you have to measure key indicators, what about tools used to measure the outcomes, what is the validity or reliability if any. Measures may include knowledge, attitude, behavior/practices, and outcomes What about the sample? You may propose small but large enough samples to observe changes. What is the feasible for data collection, the minimal time needed, resources, costs? How will you conduct the data analysis? Who will be involved in the Organization?

12. Recommendations for practice change.

13. Conclusion of your assignment, summarizing the main points and explaining its main purpose. Restate the topic, purpose, main points, and the significance of your findings. End this section with the implications for practice makes emphasis on the future of your topic.

14. Format references and citations using 7th ed. APA guidelines.

Criteria:

Abstract: Clearly and succinctly describes each part of the Assignment in less than or 250 words.

Introduction, background, and significance of the intervention: Comprehensively describes the background and significance of the problem or issue and the necessity of the intervention. Provides a rationale for why is important.

PICO type question and Purpose statement: Format followed and all format elements clearly stated

Search methods: Concisely details and provides information about the article selection, including search engines used, search terms (keywords), and inclusion/exclusion criteria. In addition, the number and type of articles included are clearly stated. Levels of evidence are acknowledged and applied to the search.

Analysis of Findings: Search and select ten or more relevant journals for review in the intervention. Uses articles that are interrelated and build upon each other to show the reader the state of knowledge of the topic.

Table of Findings: The table is present and is labeled correctly. The table is consistent and provides details that synthesize the review's primary data. Therefore, the table is presented in APA criteria.

Synthesis of the Evidence: Precise conclusions and drawn based on the findings/ data from the Results section. Conclusions are warranted based on the data/ findings and add insights to the previous literature in the area of study. Identifies the strengths and weaknesses and identifies gaps in the literature.

Proposed change: Clearly describes the existing evidence that needed to be translated to practice. The author convinces the reader that the evidence exists to support the intervention.

Implementation and relevance to Nursing: Clearly describes the variables that will measure and the outcomes of the project and what type of study will be used to measure the outcomes. Implications and recommendations for practice are clearly described

APA Style: double spaced in a 12- point serif font, has 1- inch margins, 7th Ed. APA-style headings and includes in-text citations and reference list for all citations and references.

Poster Presentation

Create a virtual poster presentation; somewhat like poster presentations, you might see at large conferences. Because of the limitations of the online environment, the poster size will be limited to a PowerPoint document. Use the MDC BLSON Poster Template attached for details.

The goal is to communicate to your audience an evidence-based nursing process change that you would like to see implemented. Your audience should be able to come away with a good understanding of what are planning to do, and why.

Instructions:

Your poster should include the following as applicable to your content:

1.  Project title and the names and credentials of group members

2.  Introduction/Background: Description of the problem necessitating the change

3.  The Gap/Problem:

4.  PICOT: the converted PICOT question

5.  Methods:

6.  Results/Intervention: Literature review of the intervention or process change (Table).

7.  Discussion

8.  Recommendations/ plans outcome measure

9.  Conclusion and implications for nursing and patient care.

10. References.
