ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE:
For your final Photoshop assignment, you will be creating a product ad. This is a great
opportunity for you to use all the Photoshop skills and techniques you have learned to create
an artwork for your portfolio.
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
Complete the Product Ad Worksheet:
• Choose your target market
• Come up with a marketing objective or strategy
• Choose your colour scheme (ie. Split-Complimentary)
• Come up with a headline, slogan or call to action
• Plan your layout to create design tension (minimum two design tensions)
• Choose suitable fonts for your target market (minimum two different font
categories/families)
• List retouching tool(s) used
• Identify the brand name of your product (ie. Gain)
• Include the APA citation for the website where you found the logo for your brand
1. Create a new document:
• 8.5” x 11” or 11” x 8.5”
• Resolution: 300 pixels/inch
• Colour Mode: RGB
2. Choose your product photo from the provided product photos
• Use selection tools to separate the product from the background
3. Choose your background photo from the provided background photos
• Use your retouching skills to remove the subject or type from the photo
4. Combine the images together creating a composite image
• All three images (product, background and logo) must be converted to Smart Objects
so that you don’t degrade the image quality in any way
5. Add proper citation to all images in small writing using APA citation
• Product and background photos: © 2020 Sheridan College
• Product logo: (Include the APA citation for the website where you found the logo for
your brand)

6. No other images are allowed
• You cannot use your own images or those found on the internet accept for the logo for
your brand
7. Resize, transform, retouch and adjust photo quality for the best result
• You must ensure that the aspect ratio is maintained and images are not distorted
8. You must include a headline, slogan or call to action
9. You must include the logo for your brand
• This is the only element which you can find from the internet
• Include the APA citation for the website where you found the logo for your brand
• Add proper citation to the logo for your brand in small writing using APA citation
• Use the selection tolls to separate the product from the background
10. Include other design elements to attract attention
• These can be shapes, gradients, backgrounds, blend modes, transparencies,
adjustments, layer styles etc.
• These cannot be elements found on the internet

• Typography, Colour Scheme and Design Tensions used match those identifed
in worksheet

DEDUCTIONS
• Failure to follow the outline and instructions above or direction provided in class
• Failure to submit a .jpg fle
• Failure to submit your fle as a Photoshop (.psd) fle with layers in tact may result in zero (layers cannot be merged or flattened)
• Failure to upload the assignment to the assignments folder on Slate before the deadline
