Assessment 3: Sample Report Structure
Due Friday 14 August at 11.59 pm.
This is a report structure so you need to have a Title for the Report and a Table of Contents.
- Introduction:
Sample report introduction including all four components of the Kolb learning cycle:
This reflective report provides a reflection on my experiences in MIS500 – Foundations of Information Systems this trimester using the Kolb (1984) learning cycle from his model of experiential learning. It describes the learning activities recorded in a weekly journal and the impact the materials and tasks had on me and my development as step one, which is attached as an appendix to the report. I reflected on the experiences to summarise what had happened over the period in step two and identified learning themes. From this I analysed what this meant for me in step three, identifying new knowledge and what it meant to me. Lastly, in step four I developed a plan for what I wanted to do with this new knowledge to develop my future studies and my career.
I used the Kolb (1984) learning cycle to write this report. (You can demonstrate your understanding of the four stages here and include a diagram of the cycle to reinforce this.)
- Reflective Observation
Summarise what happened.
Using the information recorded in the learning journal observe what you learned in the trimester. Were there any themes that arose? What are the key concepts and skills you learned and acquired during the course of this subject.
- Abstract Conceptualisaion
Analyse what you have found.
What new knowledge have I gained and what does this information mean. Has this altered or changed my personal beliefs and the way I look at the world. Has my background caused me to look at what I do from one perspective and now to I see other ways to do things. Do I look at things differently in my thinking about information systems or business?
- Active Experimentation
New action, using what had been learned to develop a plan for what I want to do with what I have learned.
Using the new insights identify how you will include any changes of thinking or behaviour in your future studies or careers. Identify any specific goals for your future studies or career. For example you might decide to join professional organisations in information technology;
or make sure you read widely on developments in the information technology field through business magazines,
or undertake some of the learning from LinkedIn Learning on areas where you want to build your knowledge about new developments in areas like cloud computing or artificial intelligence,
or build your skills in presenting to others for consulting or work,
or learn more about how to use agile approaches in how you work ….etc
- Conclusion
- Appendix – Learning Journal (with evidence)
NOTE: Appendix don’t add to the word count of the document so you can include the total word count in your main text.
| Date | Learning Activity | Impact (What it means to you) | Evidence (attach record of activity). This might be a set of slides, word document or pictures of work you have completed in class. |
If you have evidence that is too large to fit into the evidence column ie: Team Contract, just include it as a numbered attachment and in the evidence column refer to what you have attached.
In addition, if you want to refer to some of the work we did in class and diagrams or information included on the white board, but don’t have a picture, describe it and give the date it was drawn or completed.
