ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
Analyse a story about childhood and play using a social justice perspective. 500 words 30% Saturday of Week 1
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The learning outcomes assessed are:
LO 1: Elucidate and apply knowledge and understanding of historical, philosophical and political structures that shape contemporary understandings of childhoods and the role of the teacher;
LO 3: Formulate critical actions that respond to diverse early childhood
contexts and situations, both locally and globally drawing from First Nations standpoints, considering sustainability and intercultural understanding;
ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
This task includes analysing a story, creating a retelling, and then applying a social justice perspective to it.
INSTRUCTIONS
To complete your assessment task, follow the instructions below;
1 Find a partner. Time will be allocated in class for this, or you can arrange your own contact.
2 You and your partner will tell each other a story about playing in childhood. Tell your partner your story, then listen to theirs. Make some notes as you will need to retell or represent this story.
3 Explore resources and activities in the unit about social justice issues. Think about how these issues apply to the childhood story you were told.
4 Pick one social justice perspective to apply to the story you were told.
5 Create a retelling and analysis of your partner’s story to highlight your selected issue. Your submission should be structured in the following way:
a Part 1: Story (about 200 words)
Title
Name and Student Number of partner Written retelling of their story
b Part 2: Analysis (about 300 words)
Heading stating what social justice perspective you have taken Written analysis, including in text citations
Use examples in the story, and ideas from the unit to analyse the story from the social justice perspective you have identified. Make it clear what you are referencing from the unit.
c Part 3: Bibliography
Full bibliography of all sources used, APA format
Make sure your work is written clearly in appropriate academic style. Review your work for any errors and issues with clarity. Check your referencing, including in-text citations, video content and images.
