Lab 6 Review Questions: Scheduling Projects
This is an individual work. You need to submit the following exercise solutions to your tutor electronically in the Moodle. The due date for this submission is by the end of your lab session this week.
- Why do you think schedule issues often cause the most conflicts on projects?
- What purpose does Network Diagrams serve? Why is it imperative to prepare the Network Diagram before proceeding on project work?
- Discuss the critical path briefly?
- My programmer has broken his big toe in a skiing accident and cannot type for two weeks (he has a valid sick note). How will this affect my software delivery date?
- Considering the following small project 1:
- Draw an AOA network diagram representing the project
- Identify all the paths on the network diagram and calculate how long they are.
- What is the critical path for this project and how long is it?
Part B:Set up Project Schedule

- Using MS Project 2010 to set up project schedule
- Define your organization’s holiday
- Turn off change highlighting

- Save MyFirstProject file

- Define your organization’s holiday
- Open MyFirstProject.mpp project
- On the Project tab, click Change Working Time
- In the For Calendar: box, enter Standard (Project Calendar), if not displayed.
- Move the month and year using the scroll bar to the right of the calendar display.
- Click on the day to change, e.g., Monday, 20 August 2012
- Click the Exceptions tab, and then click an empty row.
- Enter a description (e.g., public holiday) in the Name column
- Click another cell in the same row to review results.
- Repeat these steps until the organizational holidays are defined as shown in the following Fig.
- Click OK.
To change the working time for a day
- Select the day and then click Details …
- Click Working Time and modify the From: and To: values as shown in the following Fig.
- Click OK twice.
To change nonworking day to working:
- Select the day and click Details …
- Click Nonworking and click OK twice
- Turn off change highlighting
- Click the Task tab
- On the Format tab, Text Styles, Item to Change, enter Changed Cells
- In Background Color, enter White.
- Click OK.

- Assignment
Do some research on above data types.
