Business Leadership Summative: Culminating Activity
Assignment Overview
You are to create a portfolio which will provide the reader with an overview of the topics covered in this course.
The portfolio will consist of four sections:
● Personality Flyer
● Inspirational Leadership Quote
● Articles
● Cartoons
● Movie reference
Format:
Your portfolio must include:
● Title page (Assignment Title, Your Name, Date, Course, Teacher’s Name)
● Table of contents (i.e. your pages must be numbered)
● 12 point, Times New Roman font, proper headings/sections for written components
● The final product should be put together in a format of your choice (Word / Docs, PowerPoint / Slides, etc.)
Contents:
The five sections of the portfolio are described in detail below:
1. Personality Flyer
Create a one to two-page flyer about you and your personality!
● This flyer should include the following:
o A summary of your personality type using the various quizzes completed in class. In your discussion include what this could mean for you both as an employee and a manager.
Introvert/Extrovert Quiz
Big Five Personality Traits
Locus of Control
Self-monitoring
Myers Briggs – include the personality characteristics of being this type (the ones that apply to you)
True Colors
o A paragraph in which you indicate “What you can offer an organization as an employee.”. If you wish you can pick a specific company that you would want to work for when talking about this.
o A paragraph that indicates the types of working environments would best suit your personality (culture – can include anything from physical layout and style of dress to cultural dimensions such as individualistic vs. collectivist, to empowerment, etc.)
o List at least five jobs that would be suited to your personality and very briefly indicate why these would be suited to you
o Create a Personal Skills Inventory: create a list of special skills/knowledge that are particular to you. May include general and specific skills (e.g. organizational skills, communication skills, proficient computer skills, first aid training, etc.) Think about this as a section that you could take from to put on a future resume.
o A paragraph summarizing your intended future career path: create a career path from your graduation from high school to your preferred career path
o Career Idol: describe an individual whose career you greatly admire. Be sure to include their career accomplishments.
o Include graphics of your choice, if you wish.
1. Inspirational Business Quote
● Identify your Inspirational Business Quote
● Identify the original creator of the quote
● Explain why you feel this is an important quote. Include one or more links to the course.
2. Articles (2 total)
● Find two up-to-date articles that have a connection to the course material – see list at end of this assignment. The articles must have been published between May 2018 and May 2021.
● Each article must cover a different/separate topic – i.e. don’t pick two about decision making.
● Include a one paragraph summary of the article (answer the questions who, what, when, where, why)
● Include two paragraphs to link to course concepts (i.e. explain how the article addresses different course concepts as well as to the business world). These paragraphs should be a minimum of five sentences. This is where you can demonstrate your knowledge of course content.
● Use the following format for each of the articles:
o Article Title, Date of Publication, and Source
o Summary: One paragraph
o Course concepts: Two paragraphs (examples, connections to real world, and theory
explanation. Example: Motivation: This article explains that motivation is the result of …)
o Link: copy and paste the URL of the article at the bottom of your summary.
3. Cartoons (2 total)
● Your portfolio must include two cartoons that can in some way relate to separate course topics and different from those above. Examples can be found in business magazines and websites as well as newspapers.
● Include copies of both cartoons
● Under each of the cartoons, include three to five sentences of information linking the cartoons to a topic covered in this course and explain the message in the cartoon. Make sure that each cartoon refers to a different section of the course.
4. Movie Reference (1)
Watch a movie or documentary that has links to course content. Consider thinking outside the box and using movies that are not outright business movies, i.e. the movie Up helps to explain needs and motivation theories, Monsters Inc. looks at personality traits or functions of management, Monsters University looks at groups and teams, or Toy Story 3 looks at different leadership styles.
● Include a one-paragraph summary of movie plotline. The paragraph should be at three to six sentences.
● Include one to two paragraphs for each of three or more BOH course concepts that were demonstrated in the movie. Clearly identify the course concept that the movie covers and then clearly explain why it does that. Be sure to include examples from the movie as evidence of the course concept that you see.
Some of the topics that you could use in the articles, movies, or cartoons include: |
