NOTE: There may be allusions and references to contemporary politics or social occurrences in your satirical text; ensure that you research, thoroughly, all elements of the text so that you can establish who or what the Target of Criticism is. b. Who or what are the targets of criticism? Explain thoroughly and critically. Establish the issue. Provide the backstory. Identify the context so the reader can understand why the targets are being targeted. What vices, hypocrisies, or social problems does the satirist seek to expose or ridicule? Explain thoroughly and critically. c. What message does the satirist send either to his target audience or targets of criticism through an alternative (often absurd) solution? Critique this/these solution(s) and any implicit or explicit justifications he provides to rationalize his point of view. e. What satirical techniques are used by the satirist? Identify and explain the significance of each technique and how they specifically function to support the satirical critique. TIE EACH to the target of criticism, the vices, or the message presented.
