Assignment #3
- Read the questions through and make sure you understand them. The questions are open- ended, and you are expected to do your own research on each topic to answer them.

- Use a maximum of 10 pages (double space) per question to answer them. [Title & references pages excluded]. Use Times Fonts (12), left aligned.
- Upload your assignments to the course website according to the deadlines posted.
- Remember, I am looking for your insight not other sources’ opinions. Ensure that cite and list the references you use (the Similarity to other sources should not exceed 10%), using APA.
You have 2 options for A3, and please just choose only one based on your preference:
Option 1 Smart City: Business Proposal of New ITs for Smart Vancouver City
If you are newly hired Vancouver city CIO today (Dec 16, 2020), the COVID-19 pandemic is still prevailing, and the social distancing has become a local law and social norm in our home city: Vancouver. However, here are some good news: 5G is finally coming to Vancouver (https://biv.com/article/2020/06/telus-selects-vancouver-four-other-cities-initial-5g-rollout), 5G is driving massive IoT innovation and adaption (https://www.rogers.com/business/blog/en/understanding-massive-iot-and-why-it-matters-for-your-business), and self-driving vehicles are also creeping into our city (https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2020/2/14/21063487/self-driving-cars-autonomous-vehicles-waymo-cruise-uber). Thus, it seems that Smart City presents our new hope and an excellent business opportunity for Vancouver and her citizens including us in the next new decade.
As a new Vancouver City CIO, Please apply all potential new ITs which you have just learnt from this course, including 5G, IoT, AR/VR, Cloud Computing, 3D printing, Big Data, AI, Robotics, and Blockchain, and propose some highly promising smart-city pilot projects for Smart Vancouver City by learning from previous smart-city cases to tackle your home-city real issues.
More specifically, you are required to identify minimum 5 new IT solutions or called smart-city pilot projects and describe their potential applications in smart Vancouver city.
Please note that I am not looking for a bullet list of technologies; rather, I am looking for an in-depth discussion of this potential IT and practical applications for business problem-solving. Please also explain How would you evaluate the success of the recommended initiatives (e.g. KPIs-key performance indicators); How would you measure success once the implementation is up and running; What are Key Success Factors (KSFs), such as Gov Funding, Tech Partners, Citizen Engagement, Privacy, Price/Affordability, and Inequality for such a smart-city project?
