Begin by creating full citations for each of your chosen sources in either MLA or APA format. Be sure that these are organized in alphabetical order in your document and that if your citations exceed one line, all lines under it are indented. This is called a hanging indent, and can be easily accomplished by highlighting the lines you wish to indent and pressing “control-t” (the letter “t,” NOT tab!). As a friendly reminder, the basic format for MLA and APA citations are as follows:
MLA
Book: Last name, First name, Title. City of publication, Publisher, Publication date.
Article: Author(s) Last Name, First Name. “Title of Article.” Title of Journal, City of publication, publisher, publication date.
APA
Book: Author’s last name, initials (Publication year). Title of Book: Subtitle. Location: Publisher.
Article: Author’s last name, initials (Publication year). Title of Article. Title of Periodical. Volume # (issue #), pages.
Part II: Writing annotations.
Write 1-2 paragraphs under each of the texts you selected where, after fully introducing the author (with professional credentials and areas of relevant expertise) you briefly summarize what the text is about and how it relates to your line of inquiry. What did you learn from the text, and what do you envision yourself drawing from it when you write the essay?
Be sure to include in-text citations with page number(s) for specific quotes or ideas that you’ve paraphrased.
