Background
Alternative energy generation and the contribution to a low carbon economy is key to a sustainable future.
Task A
Calculate energy consumption and payback period for 4 different technology light bulbs, state your assumptions and provide a summary table.
Task B
Compare traditional fossil fuel energy generation, distribution and use with clean energy generation. In your comparison quantify energy losses and costs.
Task C
Quantify an individual’s carbon footprint stating your assumptions. Identify how this could be reduced by 50% whilst maintaining the same quality of life.
Task D
Fossil fuel powered vehicle transport is changing to alternative power sources. Provide a list and brief description of these alternatives including pros and cons. Provide an analysis and evaluation, ranking these in a suitable order considering both environment and sustainability.
Task E
One such Task D development is the increased use of battery technology: further expand on this considering life cycle costs, power density and any other factors which are relevant.
Submission
A report 1500 words minimum to include diagrams, pictures and data as appropriate. Include appendix source references where used.
Assessment criteria
Pass:- A satisfactory report covering all the required tasks.
Merit:- A well written and constructed report covering all the required tasks demonstrating a good articulation of the subject matter.
Distinction:- A well written and constructed report covering all the required tasks, demonstrating an excellent articulation of the subject matter and providing meaningful analysis and evaluation.
