explore how prejudices are easily stirred

As we live through these unusual times, it is important for us to explore how prejudices are easily stirred during times of fear, instability, and confusion.  Think about various point sin history in which we have been afraid of something and turned to prejudice (i.e. Japanese internment camps, 911, Covid-19, etc).  Watch the following video and discuss the following:

  1. How does the information in the video relate to what we have been discussing in class?
  2. How likely is it that we will continue making the same mistake of looking to blame someone, or some group, in times of turmoil?
  3. What can we do to reduce the prejudice and hate during these times?
  4. What are your overall impressions of having watched the content of this video?

Also, we are living through a time of opportunity.  The civil unrest resulting from the death of George Floyd has generated an opportunity for each of us to do better in the fight toward equity for all, as well as highlighted the necessity for us to view how the justice and social services fields can do a better job at ensuring equity and justice for all.  More honest conversations have been initiated to better educate us regarding the different experiences of people of color.  Please watch these three video from Emmanuel Acho and answer the following:

  1. What important new information did you gain from the conversations with Emmanuel Acho or what point are you glad that Mr. Acho clarified?
  2. Do you feel this information is useful to you, mainstream culture, and justice professionals?
