Write an 800-word essay on either Freud’s psychosexual approach or Erickson’s psychosocial approach to development. If you choose to discuss Erickson’s approach, discuss the first 3 stages of his theory. The primary aim of this assignment is to provide you with the opportunity to produce an academic essay on a particular topic. On completion of this task, you will have learned how to: Use feedback to improve your academic performance; Produce a sustained piece of academic writing, complete with a reference section; Understand conceptual and theoretical issues relevant to the topic; Develop a logical, sequential, coherent argument within the recommended word limit; Improve citing and referencing of relevant sources. Task Instructions This assignment requires you to write a conventional academic essay, reviewing appropriate literature and research. This material must cover concepts that are related to the topic outlined below. From your knowledge of psychology, in addition to wider reading in which you will engage, compose an essay that responds to the following: “Psychodynamic psychology is an approach to understanding human behaviour that focuses on the role of unconscious thoughts, feelings, and memories (Stangor,& Walinga, 2018, p 21). Write an 800-word essay on either Freud’s psychosexual approach or Erickson’s psychosocial approach to development. If you choose to discuss Erickson’s approach, discuss the first 3 stages of his theory. This essay gives you scope to respond in a range of ways. You should also consider that the limited word count of this task means that you will need to determine what specific area(s) you wish to focus on, as it is not recommended that you try to cover everything you identify when reading around the topic. For this reason, it is strongly encouraged that you amend your essay plan based on the formative feedback you received in part 1A of this assignment, such that you have a good plan for what you are going to write. This will enable you to consider the scope of your own work, to consider the form and to balance range of coverage with appropriate length of discussion (how many points, to what extent, and what you plan to say about them). It will also help you to identify how points can be related and which information may be appropriate to include or leave out. During your planning stage, you should read and re-read information from the module learning materials, textbooks, journal articles, and your notes. Remember to engage with the DCU online library resources, using keyword searches to identify appropriate wider reading. You must indicate that you have consulted a minimum of three academic sources other than the PY100 learning materials and the Strangor and Wallinga (2018) textbook, which should include one or more academic journal articles and/or academic texts which have been sourced from the DCU Library databases (internet sources such as Wikipedia, while often useful for research purposes, are not suitable sources for this exercise). A reader of your work will see that you have drawn on these sources through your use of in-text references and in the reference list at the end of your work, presented in the APA referencing style. Please note that including work from other authors without appropriate attribution through referencing is plagiarism, which is a breach of the DCU Academic Integrity and Plagiarism policy, and which moves us from the usual academic process for assessing an assignment into a disciplinary process. A reader of your work should be able to see, and follow, a clear structure or narrative in what you have written. Here is a suggested structure for this piece of academic writing: Introduction and signposting of what will be presented in the rest of the piece; Your summary of the information relating to your chosen topic; Why this is an important area of study within developmental psychology; Conclusion;
