Global stiffness matrix

Consider a horizontal frame (1, = 2 in) fully fixed at one end and rigidly supported in the x —direction at the other end. At node 2, the frame is pin-connected to a steel bar and supported in the y —direction by a linear spring. The frame is loaded by a symmetrically distributed triangular load with a maximum value of wo = 300 kN /m, as shown in Fig. 1. The properties of the three structural elements are as follows:
Element 1: E = 200GPa, A = 0. 02m2 11 = 2 x10-4 tn4 Element 2: E = 200GPa, A = 0. 021112 Element 3: k = 4000 kN /m
a) Determine the equivalent nodal forces and moments associated with Element 1. [5 points] b) Calculate the reduced global stiffness matrix (for node 2 only!). [20 points] c) Determine the unknown displacements and rotations at node 2. [15 points] d) Determine the axial stresses induced in Element 2. [10 points]
