302WK7DQ:Strategies for Building Effective Teams
Post a brief explanation of a strategy you might recommend for building effective teams to support a quality improvement initiative in your healthcare organization or nursing practice.
A team is only as good as the members. Without a unified body of passionate, gifted individuals who can work together, the effectiveness and success of a team will be severely limited. A strategy to have the right members who create an effective team is to populate the team selectively with the right members. This strategy is the first stage in building a team, and is marked by intentionality. If the team mission/vision is known, then this is used to determine the kind of team to be created thus allowing for the team to only recruit members who will further the mission(Garcia-Dia, 2019). At this point, the work experiences and professional qualifications of the team members matter, but these individuals should also share the team vision and passion. This allows for the creation of the best team with the members unified around a singular purpose that they can pursue with a shared zeal. In addition, it is important to consider the opinions of the prospective team members on who should be included in the team. This helps to determine if the team members are a good fit while breaking down any barriers that could exist when a new member is introduced into the team (Finkelman, 2019). Overall, this strategy helps with building a solid, effective team that will achieve its full potential in the quality improvement initiative.
Briefly describe the stakeholders you would recommend to make up this quality improvement team, and explain why. Be sure to define the roles of the members making up the quality improvement team.
A quality improvement team is concerned with deliberately setting process that achieve people-based improvements, method improvements, and product improvements. There are six stakeholders recommended to make up the quality improvement team. First, a team leader who is part of the system being changed and takes on the day-to-day management responsibility for the project. Second, a technical expert who understands the different components of the quality care problem. Third, a system/clinical leader who understands the implications of the changes being conducted and has sufficient authority to test the changes. Fourth, executive sponsor who represents the management and has the leadership and management skills needed to secure resources and remover barriers to the project. Fifth, improvement advisor who has expertise in quality improvement methods and acts as an advisor and resource for the team. Finally, representatives of the persons affected by the changes (users) as they can offer unique perspectives on the changes affecting them, such as nurses offering opinions on how staffing changes affect them. They possess unique experiences and knowledge that can inform the quality improvement efforts and help in design changes around barriers (Silver et al., 2016).
Explain any potential challenges or considerations you should keep in mind that may affect who might “earn a seat at the table” to comprise this team. Healthcare Research and Quality Essay
Filling the roles within the team as discussion will help in ensuring that the team possesses the right amount of power, expertise, management and leadership to succeed. In addition, the members must share in the team’s vision and passion. This would ensure that they are not resistant to being part of the team, and are unified around a singular purpose that they would then pursue with a shared zeal. Besides that, the team would vet the members to determine if they are a good fit. The team is unlikely to be effective if the members are not a good fit (Finkelman, 2019).
