This Student Assessment Booklet includes all your tasks for assessment of BSBMKG514 –
IMPLEMENT AND MONITOR MARKETING ACTIVITIES.
About your assessments
This unit requires that you complete 4 assessment tasks. You must complete all tasks with a
competent result to achieve competency for this unit. Please read the information below
about each task included in this assessment.

Assessment Task 1 Written Questions
In this task, you will demonstrate a sound knowledge of the unit
requirements through completing and submitting written questions.
You must correctly answer all 11 questions to show that you
understand the knowledge required of this unit.
Assessment Task 2 Marketing activities project and role-play
You are required to identify and prioritise marketing strategies and
tactics from a Marketing Plan and brief your team accordingly.
Assessment Task 3 Implementation and monitoring project
You are required to implement marketing activities by writing an
article for a local paper about the company and its products/services
and then provide directions to the Marketing Officer to monitor the
impact of the article.
Assessment Task 4 Marketing performance report
You are required to review a case study including marketing
performance data and analyse and report on the data provided.

What is competency?
To complete assessment tasks satisfactorily you will need to demonstrate competence – but
what does this mean?
In the Australian vocational education and training system, the concept of competence, is
defined as: “The ability to perform tasks and duties to the standard expected in the workplace”.
Competence involves the application of specific skills, knowledge and attitudes to the work
performance in an industry, an industry sector or an enterprise. Competence is rarely achieved
in a one-off demonstration. It needs to be developed holistically – that is, bringing a range of
skills and knowledge together – and over time in a real or simulated workplace. To achieve
competence, you need to demonstrate that you can perform a given task to the standard
defined in an endorsed unit of competency.
How to submit your assessments?
When you have completed each assessment you will need to submit it to your assessor.
Instructions about submission can be found at the beginning of each assessment task. Make
sure you photocopy your written activities before you submit them – your assessor will put the
documents you submit into your student file. These will not be returned to you.
Assessment Task Cover Sheet
At the beginning of each task in this booklet, you will find an Assessment Task Cover Sheet.
Please fill it in for each task, making sure you sign the student declaration.
Your assessor will give you feedback about how well you went in each task, and will write this
on the back of the Task Cover Sheet.
Assessment outcomes
Once the assessment has been completed the student will be given the result within 14 days.
Once the student has satisfactorily completed the required assessments for a unit of
competency he/she will receive an outcome of C (Competent) or otherwise NYC (Not Yet
Competent) in which case the student is entitled to apply for a resubmission of the assessment.
Reasonable adjustments
Wherever possible, trainers/assessors will make reasonable adjustments to training and
assessment processes to ensure all people are treated equally in the training and assessment
process.
Students who have special needs may be allowed reasonable adjustment at the time of
assessment in line with the Albright Institute’s Policy and Procedures.
To meet the needs of all learners’ adjustments can be made to the way assessments are
conducted but not to the requirements of the assessment. The purpose of these adjustments is
to enhance fairness and flexibility so that the specific needs of students can be met.
Examples of reasonable adjustments
 providing additional time for student to practice the assessment tasks




presenting questions orally for students with literacy issues
asking questions in a relevant practical context
adapting machinery and equipment to make it more easily used
presenting work instructions in diagrammatic or pictorial form instead of words and
sentences
simplifying the design of tasks

It is the responsibility of each assessor to assess students’ needs and make whatever reasonable
adjustments are practicable to maximise a students’ opportunity to demonstrate their
competence.
Assessment re-submission
If a student is deemed NYC (not yet competent) the Trainer/Assessor (TRN) will explain why and
inform the student of what needs to be completed in order to demonstrate competence.
Re-assessment for assessments only occurs if the student has previously submitted the
assessment or has missed the relevant session(s) and has been afforded special consideration
which is approved by the Administration department.
If the result for the first submission of an assessment is NYC, students will be given two resubmission opportunities to achieve a competent result (this re-assessment is conducted free
of charge). A suitable time will be arranged for the reassessment to occur within 14 days of the
completion of the unit in question. Should a student either not make an attempt within this time
frame (in spite of all efforts by Albright Institute, its Trainer/Assessor and administration staff to
have the student attend a reassessment session) or the student does not achieve a satisfactory
result after two re-assessments they may be charged for another attempt.
Should the student still not achieve competence after these assessment attempts, it will be
necessary for them to re-enrol in (repeat) the unit of competence at a cost.
Assessment appeals
You can make an appeal about an assessment decision by filling an appeal form. Ask for an
appeal for from a student support officer. Refer to Albright Institute’s Assessment Policy for more
information about our appeals process.
Plagiarism Policy
All student work must be written in their own words, except where acknowledged through
quotations and referencing. Plagiarism is a serious offence; Albright Institute may impose severe
penalties on students who plagiarise.

Read the following case study / scenario and complete the activities that follow.

Case study / Scenario
Assume that you are the Marketing Manager for the company you have chosen and that
you are required to implement a range of strategies and tactics identified in the
company’s Marketing Plan. As the marketing manager you are responsible for marketing
planning, ensuring the planning and implementation of the marketing strategies and
tactics and ongoing monitoring.
This involves developing a briefing report and action plan that you will present to the team
(all of whom were involved in the original development of the marketing plan). The briefing
report and action plan will be used to ensure that all of the team understand the marketing
strategies and tactics that will be implemented and their role in this.
Assume the following resources are available in implementing marketing strategies and
tactics:
Marketing budget as specified in the marketing plan.
Access to the following staff (all of whom contributed to the development of the marketing
plan):
CEO – responsible for strategic direction and key decision-making. Does not get involved in
day to day tasks.
Operations Manager – responsible for general operations, responsible for managing all staff
and planning to ensure all required work activities are completed.
Marketing Officer – assists with marketing activities such as marketing communications.
Finance Manager – responsible for financial management, including budget allocations.
Sales Assistant – responsible for general administration and customer service.

Complete the following activities

1. Identify company and marketing plan
Choose a company for which you can implement marketing strategies and tactics

for. You can view a range of marketing plans at the website
http://www.mplans.com/. You may also research the Internet for a Marketing Plan for
a company that you are interested in. If you are having difficulty sourcing a suitable
Marketing Plan, you should speak to your assessor.
 The marketing plan you choose must include sufficient information in order to be able
to complete this assessment – this means the marketing plan must include business
goals, target customers, marketing/branding strategy, sales forecasts, marketing
budget and marketing metrics.

Before you start the assessment task, you should discuss your choice of company with
your assessor who will need to approve your choice before you start the assessment
project.
For the purposes of this assessment, assume that you are the Marketing Manager of

the company that you have chosen and that your assessor is the Managing Director.
Assume that the location of the business is in the city or suburb you are living in and
that all marketing activities are commencing from the time you are completing the
assessment.

2. Prepare your implementation plan and briefing report
Review the marketing plan for the company you have chosen:
to ensure you understand business objectives, customers and current marketing
strategies.
make notes on the strategies included in the marketing plan and identify an order
of priority for each strategy based on the organisation’s objectives. Also identify
the timing of each of the marketing strategies and activities as per the marketing
plan.

 Review the job roles of each staff member listed in the case study and identify which
staff are critical to the implementation of the marketing strategies and tactics. You will
need to allocate these staff roles to the strategies and delegate individual tasks and
responsibilities to each.

Prepare a budget estimation for the implementation of each of the strategies and
activities.
As part of your brief to the team, you will need to ensure that the team bond quickly
and work together well to achieve the outcomes required. Research and identify at

least two effective communication and team building strategies that you can use in
your briefing meeting.
 Identify strategies that can be used to monitor the marketing strategies/tactics, as
well as how marketing performance will be measured. The marketing plan may
identify these metrics for you but you may also research other appropriate methods of
measuring performance.
3. Develop implementation plan and briefing report
 Develop the brief and the implementation plan using the template provided by your
assessor and the information that you have reviewed and prepared above. You will
present this brief and plan at the meeting with the team. You must address the
following points in your report:

An overview of your company’s Marketing Plan, including marketing objectives
and performance targets.
An outline of the each of the marketing strategies in the Marketing Plan, their
priority and the marketing tactics relating to each strategy.
An action plan that includes team member roles and responsibilities, as well as

timing of marketing strategies and activities as per the priority list. This should also
explain your rationale for the allocation of roles and responsibilities for identified
staff.

Budget allocation for each marketing strategy/tactics (include this in the action
plan)
Your communication plan throughout the implementation of the marketing
strategies and tactics
Strategies for monitoring marketing activities and analysing marketing
performance.

4. Ensure your report is written in clear and concise English and error free. Submit the report
to your assessor.
5. Conduct the team briefing meeting (role-play)
The purpose of this meeting (role-play) is to brief the team on the strategies, the
objectives, and their roles and responsibilities. You will also detail your communication
plan and performance measures and implement your team building strategies.
Your assessor will provide the date, time and location for the meeting, and will invite a
number of other students to role play the staff in the team.
Print copies of your report and provide each member of the team a copy.

At the meeting, you will need to:

Provide an introduction to the meeting
Discuss key points from the briefing report, including marketing objectives,
strategies and tactics to meet objectives, priorities, roles and responsibilities and
budget allocation.

Assume that one of the marketing objectives for the company you choose in Assessment
Task 2 is to increase awareness of the company and its products and services. One of the
activities identified is to publish an article in the local paper as a promotional piece.
You have identified that the Marketing Officer will need to monitor the impact of this
promotional article and will need to advise them of their role in this activity.

Complete the following activities:
1. Develop article

Using the company you identified in Assessment Task 2, develop an article about the
company and its products/services to submit to the local newspaper for publication
as per the following format:

A headline
An opening paragraph (introduction) of about 25-40 words in length and
provides the most important and interesting news.
Further short paragraphs of about 30-40 words, each one has a main idea and
different fact. They may also include quotes from people involved or experts.
Maximum three to four paragraphs.
Details in order of importance, with the least important details at the end of the
article, thus allowing readers to skim over the start of the article to gain the
essential facts before deciding to read on.
A final summary of facts and opinions at the end of the article.

Your article should also combine the following language features to inform, entertain
and persuade as follows:


Clear and concise writing
Encourages reader to buy the company’s products or services
Use of active or passive voice, depending on the focus and which is more
engaging for the reader
May include quotes, comments, opinions, statements and observations from
people involved or experts on the topic
Give people labels so that the reader knows who they are straight away, for
example: ‘the CEO, Mr Smith’
Must avoid racist, sexist or religious slurs
Must be accurate and balanced.

Ensure your article is grammatically correct and error free before submitting it to the
General Manager (your assessor). Include a short summary of the purpose of the
article in your email.
Monitor marketing activities
Assume that the article has now been published and that you need to advise the
Marketing Officer of the strategies that will be used to monitor the impact of this
marketing activity.
Consider an appropriate monitoring strategy and send a detailed memo or email to
the Marketing Officer (your assessor). Advise the Officer that the article has been
published and give step-by-step instructions for carrying out monitoring to measure
the success, or otherwise, of the article.

 Task summary
This assessment task requires you to review and report on the information provided to you for
a fictional company, NatureCare Products, in order to monitor, evaluate and report on
marketing activities against defined objectives, and to modify marketing activities in line with
new or emerging trends. You are also required to meet with your assessor in the role of
General Manager to discuss potential improvements to the marketing mix.

o Please use the “Template for a Report” (given by your trainer) to complete this
assessment.
o Your assessor will advise as to whether you must email them your completed

1. Develop a monitoring and evaluation report.
 Read the case study (NatureCare Products) information and review the marketing
data in the document provided to you.
 Based on your review, develop a report using the template provided by your assessor
that address the following:

Outline the products currently provided by the company and options for
expansion
Report on the promotional activities undertaken by the company.
Outline the extent to which promotional activities are meeting the objectives
specified

Outline the company’s current pricing strategy and identify options in response to
the entry of the new competitor into the market.
Outline the company’s current distribution strategy and its effectiveness based on
the data provided.
Provide an overall analysis of marketing performance based on the data
provided.
Provide an analysis of marketing spend versus budget.
Identify and report on opportunities for improving marketing performance based
on the data provided.
Identify and report on opportunities to meet customer needs based on the data
provided.
Research and report on at least three new and emerging trends for the business
and the industry within which it operates.

2. Submit your completed report to the General Manager (your assessor). You will have
the opportunity to discuss the report in the next part of the assessment.
3. Participate in a meeting with the General Manager (your assessor) to discuss the
monitoring and evaluation report.
 The purpose of the meeting is to discuss your report, identify opportunities to improve
marketing performance, and to discuss identified business practices that need to be
changed to keep in line with customer requirements.
 During the meeting you will need to demonstrate effective communication skills
including:



Speaking clearly and concisely
Asking and responding to questions
Using active listening techniques and questioning to seek feedback

 Your assessor will provide you with feedback during the meeting, which you will use to
provide an updated report that includes detailed recommendations for
improvements, as well as changes to marketing objectives and tactics based on
these changes.
 Following the meeting, you should update your report as follows:



Add a section on opportunities for improving marketing strategies
Add a section on changing business practices to identified meet customer needs
Add a section on changes to marketing objectives and targets.

4. Submit a final version of your report to the General Manager (your assessor).
