Instructions
For this peer review assignment, your instructor will assign you to a team. Here is what you need to do.
For your primary post, first reflect on your own drafting. Tell classmates how your essay is going, ask questions, or identify things you would like your peers to look at in your paper. Where are you struggling? What can peers help with?
Then use the paperclip icon under the post window to attach a Word document with the rough draft of at least a full page (more if possible) of your Cause and Effect essay. Your draft should include at least two body paragraphs containing cited information from your research.
Ideally, make your primary post by Tuesday, or by Wednesday at the latest, so you can use peer feedback to revise your essay.
In order to earn full credit for this week’s discussion, you must provide feedback to two of your peers by answering the questions below by no later than Friday. Please use the questions listed below to guide your complete and thoughtful responses.
Purpose: The essay’s introduction paragraph should clearly indicate the essay’s purpose, but avoid using trite phrases such as “I’m writing about” or “This essay is about.” How can the essay’s purpose be stated more effectively?
Thesis: The introduction should end with a thesis that summarizes the cause and effect relationship and its significance. Copy and paste the writer’s thesis statement. What improvements do you suggest?
Structure and Development: Writers should follow a clear organizational approach—effects of a cause, causes of an effect, or causal chain. Does the essay follow an appropriate approach for the topic? Does each paragraph provide an organized part of the whole essay’s argument with clear topic sentences and relevant supporting details, examples, and explanations? In what parts of the essay could the details, examples, and explanations be improved?
Source Support: Writers must cite the source of all information where it appears, even if the source content is paraphrased into the writer’s own words. Is every source cited in the text included in the References? Is every source in the References cited in the text?
Conclusion: Reflecting on the entire paper, readers should see an analysis of a cause and effect relationship and a synthesis of all of those details to show the importance, significance, or value of the cause-effect relationship. How well does the essay accomplish its purpose? What is the audience’s takeaway?
Rather than copy the questions above into your feedback posts, copy the outline below instead for the sake of brevity.
