Assessment Brief
Assessment Type: Portfolio: Incorporating two tasks a Report and a Presentation (Learning Outcome 2 Create a Presentation from Researched Data for a Specific Purpose and Audience and Learning Outcome 3 – Personal Development Planning for Study Skills).
In week 9 of the Study Skills module, you will submit a ‘Personal Development Portfolio’ that consists of the following two tasks:
Task 1: An 800-word reflective report based on your Study Skills Journey. The report should include a reflection on your study skills journey including-
- Identifying where you are now
- Identifying your study skills and learning goals and
- Identifying clear strategies for how you will achieve your goals.
The discussion will be guided by your ‘Personal Development Planning – Student Pack’ with all the completed study skills activities and tasks in all sections (1-7) as directed in the document and in the Study Skills lectures from weeks 1 to 6, This documents must also be included in the appendix.
Task 2: You are going to create a presentation in English about your Study Skills Journey (this is the same topic that you have written about in your Study Skills essay above).
Your presentation should include:
- An introduction
- Three main elements of your Study Skills Journey (a 3-point presentation structure)
- A final conclusion or recommendations based on your research topic
You can use the existing Word documents as a template, but you can also adapt the document to your own style and add any relevant graphics, visuals, etc. to personalise your portfolio, if you wish. Assessment Task:
Presentation Instructions
- You will create your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint
- You should use a maximum of 6 slides (this includes a cover slide and a reference slide) in your presentation.
- Remember to include a presentation cover slide (name, Banner ID, title of presentation) at the start and a reference slide (listing your sources) at the end of your presentation.
- You may include images or graphs in your slides as long as they are appropriate to the task.
Documents: the PDP Student Pack documents are available for download in the Study Skills module (Assessment 1 folder) in UWS Moodle – your tutor can provide assistance, if necessary.
Word Count: The word count for the report is 800 words with a margin of 10% but, where appropriate, you should complete all the tasks in the portfolio with full, detailed description and evaluation.
Report Structure and Word Count Guidance: The report should contain a cover page and be structured using the following headings and sub-headings. The word count per section is an approximate.
Introduction (100 words) – What is a PDP? The benefits? Outline of the report
Part A Where you are now (200 words) – ( Use information in Sections 1 – 3 of PDP)
- Your previous and current education
- SWOT
- Personality analysis (What you think vs Peers)
- Aspirations
Part B Your study skills and learning goals (200 words)
Section 4 and Section 6
Part C Clear strategies for how you will achieve your goals. (200 words)
Section 5 and 7
Conclusion (100 words)
Submission Deadline: Week 9 Monday 14th December 2020
Please note that any assignments submitted after this final deadline may not be marked.
Submission Instructions: Portfolios must be submitted electronically via a link in the appropriate section (‘Assessment’ folder) of the Study Skills Moodle module. Your tutor will inform you when the link is available and provide you with full instructions on how to upload your work.
Any work that you submit must be your own and the use of sources must be referenced appropriately. Any work that is deemed to be plagiarised or not the student’s own work will not be marked and will not count towards the final module grade.
Sources: As part of your research into your chosen topic, you are responsible for finding appropriate sources to support the ideas in your report. All sources used in your report must be referenced appropriately according to the Harvard referencing system.
Assessment Criteria & Grading: The portfolio will be assessed according to its completeness and on your ability to self-reflect and evaluate the usefulness of the study skills activities in relation to your own personal situation and study habits (where appropriate). Further information will be provided by your tutor.
The Personal Development Portfolio accounts for 60% of the overall final grade for the Study Skills module.
