Part1 The following two case studies will focus on improving skills for memory, test-taking, and note-taking. Read the Unit 3 case study to learn about Mike, a student with learning disabilities. Imagine that you were Mike’s teacher last school year and you are writing a letter to his new teacher to help him or her better understand how Mike can be successful in class. For your Discussion Board post, explain how you would address Mike’s challenges in studying and test-taking. In a letter to Mike’s new teacher, address the following: How will the understanding of the information processing theory of memory assist the teacher in developing interventions for Mike? Which strategies presented in the textbook will most likely be successful for Mike and why? How are your suggestions for Mike different from those you would suggest for regular education students?

Part2 The second case study is about Zeke. Read the Unit 3 case study to learn about Zeke’s needs. Imagine that Zeke is your student. What approach would you take to help Zeke develop effective note-taking skills? Address the following questions: Why is note-taking such an important skill for all students and why should it be taught explicitly to students with learning disabilities? Why are note-taking accommodations not enough? What skills does Zeke need to become successful at note-taking? What role does listening play in note-taking skills? Examine the various instructional approaches and strategies for teaching note-taking. Which would be more or less effective with Zeke? Why might they be more or less effective for other students? Discuss the specific note-taking strategies presented in the textbook. Which would be more or less effective with Zeke? Why might they be more or less effective for other students?
