The medical field is based on the importance of ever-changing evidence-based practice updates (Melynk & Fineout-Overholt, 2019). Studies are continually being completed and providers are given updated research that is discovered, and it is best practice to initiate the changes for patient care.

Though change can be difficult for people, providers need to initiate the changes once they are released so patients are receiving the top care available based on the newest research available. Providers need to implement changes in their office by providing the evidence of change to staff and patient’s when changes are being presented and implemented. Presentation of the information is key to how the data is received. The main provider needs to have a positive attitude when implementing the change so those who are receiving the information do not feel scared or discouraged by the suggested changes (Kyngas, 2020).

As a provider, we have a responsibility to make sure our patients are receiving the newest information and treatment available. Providers need to continue to evaluate their patient’s individual treatment plans with the updated evidence-based information and evaluate how the patient is responding to the newest guidelines and medications being used. It is key to remember that not every patient is the same and some patients may not respond in the same manner as other patients do to the newest guidelines for treatments, so adjust accordingly. It is important for providers to track their patient’s outcomes as well so the providers can provide feedback and information to research companies if needed based on the changes implemented and seen in their office.

Above all else, be open to evidence-based practice changes as continued science is happening with information being updated continuously.
