Please identify and read at least one scientific paper or scientific review article directly related to the pathophysiology of a disease. The article will need to discuss an internal factor that is maintained by the human body within a narrow range (homeostasis). For example, O2 and CO2 levels in the blood, heart rate, blood pressure, pH, blood glucose levels, absence of foreign substances in the bloodstream, temperature, etc. would all be appropriate for this assignment. The article will also need to articulate a pathophysiological state in which the internal factor is affected. The causes of the pathophysiological state as well as its impact on specific body organs or tissues will need to be explored. For this discussion post, the assignment is to identify how the human body maintains the selected internal body factor within a narrow range (i.e., identify the negative feedback mechanism used to maintain homeostasis); describe in detail what causes the pathophysiological state; and explain how the lack of control of this factor affects at least one body organ and leads to the organ-specific symptoms typically observed in the disease. As an example, type 2 diabetes would be an appropriate topic. For full credit, you would need to identify the negative feedback mechanism used to maintain blood glucose levels within a normal range, describe in some detail why and how pancreatic B-cells stop producing insulin and why specific organs/tissues develop insulin resistance (IR), and explain how either excess blood glucose or IR affects at least one specific organ/tissue and leads to the organ-specific symptoms typically observed in type 2 diabetes. A minimum of eight to ten grammatically correct sentences is expected. Include the title of the paper and at least one complete reference/citation!!!
