You will need the following resources to complete this assignment:
- 4Phones Intranet
- 4Phones Open Office WBS document
- Access to Microsoft Project. Contact the IT Help Desk if you don’t have access to this program.
- If you are using an Apple compuer (MAC or IPAD) you can download a copy of Project Libre. When saving your project files you need to save them as xml files or we won’t be able to open them.
- If you would like further training in Microsoft project contact the helpdesk.
- Access to WinZip. Contact the IT Help Desk if you don’t have access to this program.
What you have to do
Scenario
You are a new employee of 4Phones IT Department. You have been approached by David Blair, IT Manager who has asked you to be Project Manager for the migration to Open Office Software.
All documentation relating to the project can be found in the 4Phones intranet.
Tasks
Task 1
In the Project Charter, you have identified the Project Team Roles & Responsibilities. David Blair needs the Work Breakdown Structure for the Open Office Project.
Using the 4Phones WBS document, insert the predecessors and resources for each activity/task. Save as WBS.xlsx
Task2
Produce a Gantt Chart in MS Project from the WBS document you produced in Task 1.
- Commence your project from the current date.
- Each Project Team member will be charged out at $50 per hour. The Project Manager will be charged out at $100 per hour.
- Work hours will be Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm
- Enter the task name, duration, start, finish and resources. MS Project should calculate the cost for each task. Make sure the costs are showing in your Gant Chart.
- Save as OpenOffice.mpp
Task 3
David feels the project is too long. He has asked you to reduce the project duration by 20 days. Update the tasks and recalculate the costs. Revise your Gant Chart with the updated project duration, task adjustments and costs. Save your updated MS Project as OOUpdate.mpp.
Task 4
- Write a memo to David Blair explaining how and where you crashed the project in Task 3. Explain what implications,if any, this will have, on the costs.
- Save your answer in a MS Word file called Crash.docx.
- Also create a cash flow report for the original project and the crashed project .
- Save your answer as OpenOfficeCashflow.pdf and OOUpdateCashflow.pdf
