OBJECTIVE

Demonstrate the ability to understand perspectives, theories, and concepts in health psychology, and apply these to explain human behavior in healthcare settings.
INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Select ONE health-enhancing behavior from the list below – – each behavior must be chosen by at least two but no more than three students only.

Get a target group to apply the theory

After selecting the health-enhancing behavior, you will:

Describe/explain how/why an individual is NOT likely to engage in it, using the Health Belief Model (HBM) (refer to the Health Belief Model framework adapted from Janz & Becker (1984) in “Health Beliefs and Attitude I” lecture).

Using at least two concepts under the topic of persuasion, propose how healthcare professionals can attempt to encourage the performance of the health-enhancing behavior (refer to “Health Beliefs and Attitudes III” lecture).
It should be clear in your proposal wherein the HBM framework the chosen theory/concepts is/are applied.

Persuasion concept and Finally, use the Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence (ABC) model of behavior modification to demonstrate how you can further get the individual to enact the chosen health-enhancing behavior (refer to “Change Theory and Behavior Modification II” lecture).
