Assessment Task
This is the first assessment of the unit, which is an individual task. Each student will research and find information about a BREEAM assessed building, and research all the necessary documents to understand the environmental assessment of the building. Students can select any type of building as long as it is located in the UK. The selected building should be agreed with your tutor in the first two teaching weeks. The selected buildings should be different, so finding a project and confirming it with the tutor as early as possible is advised.
The report should consist of two main parts, the first is to describe the projected and actual credit, how the building is assessed and go through the credits given to rate the building in different categories, and discuss the final rating in comparison to the projected assessment. The second part of the report is to reflect on the assessment process and the way it was commissioned in the case study building then critically evaluate the building in light of the first part findings and making suggestions of ways to earn more efficient credits.
Support:
To support you as individuals, a significant amount of the seminar time allocated to this unit is devoted to work on the assessment. This means that you will have regular opportunities to plan and discuss the outcomes of your own individual work with colleagues and tutor. Seminars will also provide opportunities for you to discuss the progress of your report and exchange feedback with other individuals.

| C1 – C3 | Satisfactory explanation and mainly accurate report of the key issues of a sustainable context. Adequate level of understanding and competence with reasonable reference to research. Satisfactory insight is provided. The appraisals are mainly accurate and appropriate. |

Late Submission
Students are reminded that:
- If this assessment is submitted late i.e. within 5 working days of the submission deadline, the mark will be capped at 40% if a pass mark is achieved;
- If this assessment is submitted later than 5 working days after the submission deadline, the work will be regarded as a non-submission and will be awarded a zero;
- If this assessment is being submitted as a referred piece of work (second or third attempt) then it must be submitted by the deadline date; any Refer assessment submitted late will be regarded as a non-submission and will be awarded a zero.
Extenuating Circumstances
The University’s Extenuating Circumstances procedure is in place if there are genuine circumstances that may prevent a student submitting an assessment. If students are not ‘fit to study’, they can either request an extension to the submission deadline of 5 working days or they can request to submit the assessment at the next opportunity (Defer). In both instances students must submit an EC application with relevant evidence. If accepted by the EC Panel there will be no academic penalty for late submission or non-submission dependent on what is requested. Students are reminded that EC covers only short term issues (20 working days) and that if they experience longer term matters that impact on learning then they must contact a Student Achievement Officer for advice.

Academic Misconduct
Any submission must be students’ own work and, where facts or ideas have been used from other sources, these sources must be appropriately referenced. The University’s Academic Handbook includes the definitions of all practices that will be deemed to constitute academic misconduct. Students should check this link before submitting their work.

Ethics Policy
The work being carried out by students must be in compliance with the Ethics Policy. Where there is an ethical issue, as specified within the Ethics Policy, then students will need an ethics release or an ethical approval prior to the start of the project.

Grade marking
The University uses a letter grade scale for the marking of assessments. Unless students have been specifically informed otherwise their marked assignment will be awarded a letter grade. More detailed information on grade marking and the grade scale can be found on the portal and in the Student Handbook.

Assessment Task
You will be required to complete 2 hour online test using Solent Online Learning on campus venue in IT Area (to be confirmed) scheduled on the date and time specified above. Details of the type of questions and some practice questions will be provided during the delivery of the unit.
The open online test will give you a similar experience to BREEAM AP test as the main environmental assessment method in the UK.
