Introduction for the idea
Overemphasis of the water importance for sustenance of life is not suitable. This is playing a crucial role in the lives of a living thing for various purposes. As per the report shared by the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority in 2015, in UAE, the water consumption rate is 4.2 billion cubic meters on a yearly basis approx. Thus, in this nation, water demand is mainly satisfied by both conventional and non-conventional sources. Hence, due to the shortage of water, it becomes quite essential to have a balance in the water supply and demand and employing some modern techniques to conserve it (researchgate.net, 2020). From another report, it has been developed that in the UAE, the percentage of water lost in 2015 was 8.2%. Although this number was less as compared to the rest of the world, still, it is important to call for some better ways that would be helpful in conserving it and reducing the loss of water in distribution systems. Therefore, it is quite essential to efficiently manage the resources of water. Since the pipelines of water are buried underground, leakage detection is troublesome for the engineers, hence, through this study, a brief summary for the modern technology has been proposed.
1. Identify a Problem Statement
Water leakage problem can create major issues for human beings. In this context, it is developed that if an individual ignores leaking pipes for long, this can wreak havoc on the entire home. This can further lead to degradation in the quality of water, warped and stained walls, invasive black mould and sometimes flood. Nonetheless, leakage is also responsible for entering of water contaminants in the water pipes that get mixed with the potable water further makes the potable water unfit for domestic purposes (Koksalan et al. 2020). This can lead to serious health issues and hence require huge amount for dealing with the issue. Thus, it is important to monitor the distribution system efficiently and identify and detect the leak location in the system.
2. Show available existing Solutions
2.1 Locally
Gulf countries have realised the implication of the loss of water in their distribution networks. The Government authorities have hence used some methods that involve acoustic equipment which is listening to the noise that originates from two pints and hence collating information via a leak noise correlator method. This has helped to reduce the leakage. But this is not the exact solution for such a problem. People still are not getting the required amount of water and hence their needs are not fulfilled like a PH of the water.
2.2 Internationally
This problem is also common to different parts of the world. Hence, other countries have also applied some techniques to curb such a problem. Leak detection instruments have been purchased by most of the developed countries (sswm.info, 2020). Some nations are also using the method of leakage assessment like pressure control, wastage metering and so on. In this context, some authorities fail to monitor efficiently.
3. Appraise the Proposed Solution
The proposed solution here is mainly a device that is linked with an application. This can be used easily as here, the user has to register to the app with the help of customer ID. Once, the user is registered, then, whenever leakage is occurring, a notification will be sent to the app. Furthermore, this is so well designed that will help in knowing the exact location of the leakage. This will not only talk about the leakage but also about the PH value and flow of water. Hence, this would definitely improve the experience of a user as it can be easily understood. In this process, the main party involved in the Water Authority of the concerned nation. Hence, this concept is quite different from the existing as there, the user can not know about the location of leakage and hence may have to change the overall pipeline that can be costly (Awwad et al. 2020). Moreover, the existing one would not give information about the PH and rate of water flow.
4. Defend the argument of How your Solution Solves the Problem
The proposed solution is quite efficient and effective than the existing. If a user is interested in knowing the pH of the water and its potability, then, the proposed solution is perfect. Moreover, this would also help an individual in knowing the leakage position that can reduce the investment. Engineers are also benefitted from this solution as for them, it is easier to locate the position of leakage and identify the proper instrument to fill it. Nonetheless, the proposed solution would also aid users in monitoring the usage of water on monthly or yearly basis. Furthermore, this is also helpful in assisting the users in monitoring the flow of water through the pipes. Thus, here the architecture is helpful in handling actual management of water. Thus, here IoT framework has been used in this context has allowed the monitoring of water usage and controlling wastage without human awareness. Hence, it can be said that the proposed solution is helpful in various aspects.
5. Assess the Solution feasibility
The solution is feasible enough to achieve the main objective. This can be hence deployed within the time limit and thus, there is no need for various resources. With limited resources, this system can be conveniently and easily implemented within the framework. It is cost-effective. The solution is sustainable also as this is not harming the environment. So, this is profitable. This solution is also profitable as human beings are not paying further for tackling with the health issues faced by them due to water leakage. The solution here can be implemented within 6 months. Apart from that, it is further observed that here the resources like ultrasonic sensor, GSM module, flow sensor, cloud-based server, gateway, sensor and actuators have been used.
6. Discuss the Solution Value Proposition
The solution is valuable enough as this is saving a huge amount as this would tell the exact position of leakage. Furthermore, the solution would also save the time of an individual as well as the engineer. Apart from that, this would also help the country in conserving water efficiently and providing each citizen with the potable water. Along with that, routine maintenance is also possible that would further lead to a substantial resource. Moreover, this would also help an individual in protecting the home from the creation of mould and flood. Hence, the solution is considered to be value proposition as this is saving both time and money. In this system, different stakeholders are involved for developing. Like the technicians will allow the implementation of this system as this is totally based on software. Apart from that, here, engineers of different fields like electronic, mechanical and computer science are also involved. The solution is not expensive and can be deployed by investing 1000 Emirati Dirham as this is not involving much resources. Furthermore, it is also observed here that the users like citizens of UAE would be mostly benefitted from this system. Thus, if this product is launched in the market, it can be seen that this would become the most successful product.
Conclusion
From the comprehensive study, the complexity of destructive testing has been demonstrated, so, for tackling that, non-destructive testing has been proposed. From the study, it can be hence concluded that NDT is helpful in evaluating material properties and conditions i.e., water pipes without altering water distribution network’s structure. Here, the study has demonstrated the efficacy of the proposed system over the existing one. The overall study was conducted by considering the case of UAE, where, shortage of water is prominent. In this study, the software-based method has been proposed for eradicating the problem of leakage. From the study, it can be hence inferred that computer software is potential in measuring the pipe’s internal parameters like a balance of mass, volume and analysing the pressure. The study also showed how the existing solution failed to fulfil the user’s needs. This is further concluded from the study that instrumental errors are mostly responsible for undetected leaks or false alarms.
