Objective

The objective of this assignment is to critically evaluate a selected case scenario involving a patient with a life-limiting condition. Students are required to demonstrate critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and evidence-based practice by identifying and addressing unmet patient and/or family needs. A holistic and culturally sensitive approach to patient care must be emphasized throughout.

Submission Formats

In this assignment, you are to build upon your previous work (Assessment 2A) and translate this into a case study report. You can choose any of the following submission formats:

  • Written report
  • Digital presentation
  • Video submission

Please note that regardless of the format you choose to submit your work, you will be graded based on the same rubric and learning outcomes.

Benefits of Multiple Submission Formats

  • Enhanced Accessibility: Different submission formats cater to diverse learning styles and abilities. For instance, students with writing difficulties might excel in verbal presentations, thereby providing a fair opportunity for all students to showcase their understanding and skills.
  • Skill Development: By allowing various submission formats, students can develop a broader range of skills. Written reports enhance your academic writing and analytical skills, digital presentations boost your technological and design skills, and video submissions improve your verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Engagement and Motivation: Offering choice can increase student engagement and motivation, as you can choose the format that they are most comfortable with or find most interesting, making the assessment more relevant to your personal or professional aspirations.

Common Expectations Across All Formats

Required Content:

  • Provide an overview of the life-limiting condition affecting the patient of the selected case scenario.
  • Identify and analytically rationalise two (2) patient and/or family unmet needs (from domains such as psychological, spiritual, social, emotional, or physical). Your selection of patient or family issues should come from different domains.
  • Select and present an assessment tool:
    • Critically explain the selected assessment tool(s) and thoroughly analyse available evidence.
    • More than one assessment tool can be explored and contrasted (using evidence-based literature). Relevance and suitability should be linked to the selected case study.
    • Consider a more specific approach in selecting assessment tools relevant to the unmet need/issue.
  • Critically analyse and discuss evidence-based recommendations covering early interventions, support, and future planning. You also need to provide a rationale for each recommendation and ensure suitability to the case study.

Critical Thinking:

Regardless of the format, students must critically analyse information, identify underlying patterns, and create arguments well-supported by evidence.

  • Referencing: Citing sources is imperative, as well as avoiding plagiarism and ensuring the accuracy of cited information.
  • Person-centred and Cultural Considerations: Adhere to relevant guidelines when dealing with special health concerns involving sensitive topics. Consider a more holistic approach in your report
