This is the second of two developmental interview projects in this
course. Each project focuses on a different developmental stage,
as outlined in HBSE I. While the Midterm focused on early
development (infancy to early childhood), this Final Project shifts
to middle childhood through adolescence. Like the Midterm, this
assignment is worth 100 points, bringing the total project grade
to 200 points.
• The paper must include at least 6-10 full pages of
written content (the body of the paper). The title page
and reference list do not count toward those 6-10
pages.
For this assignment, students must choose one of the following
interview options:
• Option 1: Interview a parent or legal guardian of a child
between the ages of 6 and 18
• Option 2: Interview a child who is at least 12 years old,
with prior parental/guardian consent
Your interview should explore the child's development,
environment, and overall well-being. You will then analyze the
information using developmental theories, the Life Course
Perspective, the Biopsychosocial Model, and the Person-in-
Environment framework. This assignment is intended to deepen
your ability to assess individuals in real-world contexts and
prepare you for advanced work in human behavior and social
work practice.
Your final report should include the following four sections:

Provide a descriptive summary of the interview. Include:
• Demographic details (age of child, age of parent, gender,
race/ethnicity, etc.)
• Key life events shared by the parent
• Contextual information about the child's development,
caregiving environment, and any concerns or milestones
discussed
2. Life Course Perspective
Interpret the child and family's experiences using the Life Course
Perspective:
• Identify the cohort the child is part of and how that may
impact development
• Note relevant transitions, trajectories, and turning
points (e.g., entering preschool, birth complications,
parental job change)
• Consider how timing and sequence of events affect
outcomes
