This week we are learning about discrimination and oppression base on gender and sexuality. Part 1 of 2: Review the two videos, “Throw Like a Girl” and “Be a Man” from the Required Readings/Videos section from above. Using the Discussion Board Rubric listed below as a guide, develop a well-thought-out original response identifying the message these videos are telling us – and how you would say that message to a child. First, think of yourself as a child, what would you tell that young “you” about the messages in the films? Two, write your message for an opposite gender child that is supportive and empowering. Three, how might things be different for you, and for society, if we were more careful and intentional about messages we share as a culture? Part 2 of 2: Review the materials found on the GLAAD website: “GLAAD: Be an Ally & a Friend” found in the Required Readings/Videos section from above. Specifically, select “10 Ways to be an Ally and a Friend”. Number 8 from this list suggests you defend your friends against discrimination. Using the Discussion Board Rubric listed below as a guide, develop a well-thought-out original response addressing what might that look like in your life. Give a specific example. Discussion Board Rubric Original response due by Day 4, 11:59pm ET. Respond to two of your peers by Day 7, 11:59pm ET.
