Team,
Topic: Week 9 Announcement
Welcome to week 9 of our course. I have no doubt in the past weeks that you have been learning much and increasing your knowledge/understanding in various statistical concepts. This week, we shall examine Comparing Proportions.
You may ask, why is comparing proportions important in public health? As a public health
professional, you might be concerned with the proportion of children in a village who are
vaccinated against measles. You may want to examine the proportion of individuals who
developed an illness among all the passengers of a cruise ship. The approach and methods to comparing proportions in statistics is an essential component of public health practice.
This week, you consider approaches and methods of comparing proportions in statistics.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
• Compute summary statistics
• Analyze significance of results derived from statistical analyses
• Identify concepts related to comparing two proportions
•
• Discussion: Optional Study Group Discussion (SGD)
Whether you are assisting your colleagues or asking for assistance, it is recommended you
participate in the SGDs each week, with an initial post intended to spark a conversation and then through interacting with your colleagues.
To prepare
Review the Learning Resources for this week and reflect on any concepts or material that you found interesting or challenging for discussion with your colleagues.
By Day 5
Ask and answer questions, collaborating with your peers to gain a robust understanding of the concepts presented in the Discussion or Assignments for the week.
7/25/23, 3:30 PM Topic: Week 9 Announcement
This post, and future SGD posts for this course, should be written to spark discussion among your colleagues. In other words, your post should not contain a statement of fact or a list of solutions to the exercises. Do not be afraid to ask for help, and do not be hesitant to offer it. Remember to
conduct yourself professionally and patiently with your colleagues.
By Day 7
Engage in discussion with your colleagues by contributing multiple meaningful, substantive ideas, suggestions, and insights on the focus topic. Present your written contributions in a
polished, professional manner.
Project: Final Project: Results
With your disease in mind, and the instructor feedback you received on your methods section,
conduct the appropriate statistical analyses using SPSS and review the output obtained. For this Final Project Assignment, review this week’s Learning Resources. Reflect on the significance of the results. Be sure to save the code for your statistical analysis and include it as an appendix with your submission for this week.
Note: SPSS allows you to set an option so the syntax code is saved in the output or you can
paste code directly into a syntax window by clicking the mouse on ‘Paste’ before running a
procedure. Then save the syntax window into a syntax file (really a txt file that can be copied into Word) before ending the SPSS session.
The Assignment: (1 page of narrative plus charts and SPSS syntax code)
o Description of the steps you took to conduct your statistical analyses. o Summary of your statistical ***
■ Narrative description
■ Tables and graphs (Be careful — too many tables and graphs decreases clarity)
• Be sure to include your SPSS codebook as well as the syntax code used in SPSS to
conduct your statistical analyses. The page length of your code may vary according to
the types of analyses conducted.
**Please include the following header on this Assignment.**
One simple statement for each. This helps you and the instructor keep track of what you are attempting.

Submit your Assignment.
Submission and Grading Information
To submit your completed Assignment for review and grading, do the following:
• Please save your Assignment using the naming convention “WK9Proj+last name+first initial.
(extension)” as the name.
■ Click the Week 9 Project Rubric to review the Grading Criteria for the Assignment.
• Click the Week 9 Project link. You will also be able to “View Rubric” for grading criteria from
this area.
• Next, from the Attach File area, click on the Browse My Computer button. Find the document
you saved as “WK9Proj+last name+first initial.(extension)” and click Open.
■ if applicable: From the Plagiarism Tools area, click the checkbox for I agree to submit my
paper(s) to the Global Reference Database.
• Click on the Submit button to complete your submission.
*Remember to use the Results Template to complete the fourth Final Project assignment. I
provided the Binomial Logistic Regression Example document in the Doc Sharing section of the classroom this week.*
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Many blessings,
Dr. Irobi
