‘Academic Misconduct’ Statement:
‘Academic Misconduct’ is a term used to describe a deliberate attempt by a student to take
unfair advantage over other students to undermine the quality, standards and credibility of
the programmes and qualifications offer by UKCBC. Academic
Misconduct includes: plagiarism; collusion; falsification; replication; cheating; bribery; and
impersonation. A student suspected of Academic Misconduct will be investigated by the
College and appropriate action will be taken.
‘Contract Cheating’ Statement:
‘Contract Cheating’ is defined by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) as occurring when, “a
third party completes work for a student who then submits it to an education provider as
their own, where such input is not permitted.” Such third party companies have become
known as ‘essay mills’, and it is the responsibility of students to avoid contact and
association with such third party companies throughout their entire period of study. A
student suspected of Contract Cheating will be investigated by the College and appropriate
action will be taken.

Overall Scenario and Activity:
You are working as a Junior sustainability consultant for The International
Tourism Consultancy Associates (ITC-A) a specialist in formulating tourism
master plans and development strategies for destinations worldwide. Your
consultancy firm has been approached by the government tourism team of
one of the following destinations – Australia, Belize, Bulgaria, Dominican
Republic, Italy, Indonesia, Guyana, Montenegro, Nepal, Romania,
Tanzania, The United Kingdom, and Vietnam. The aim is to provide
direction and support for sustainable development and growth by improving
its tourism offer and generate greater tourism revenues, whilst minimising the
negative economic, social and environmental impacts.
The newly appointed government officers responsible for bringing this vision
to life has contracted your consultancy firm to organise training workshops,
seminars and relevant publication in the form of articles and reports for key
stakeholders at the destinations.

As a junior sustainability consultant, you have been asked by your line
manager to write an article for publication determining the main features of
sustainable and responsible tourism. Specifically, the article should include
the following:
An analysis of the concepts and meanings of sustainable and responsible
tourism according to leading global organisations
A critical analysis of the relevance and application of the concepts and
meaning of sustainable and responsible tourism according to leading global
organisations.
Part 2
As a junior sustainability consultant, you have been asked by your line
manager to write a management report evaluating the importance of
tourism development planning for sustainability. Provide specific tourism
examples from at least three or four different global destinations. You
should provide a suitable title for your management report. Specifically, the
management report should include the following:
• An exploration of the purpose and principles of tourism development
and planning to minimise the adverse effects of tourism
• An evaluation of the process of tourism development and planning,
and the associated challenges and problems, providing specific tourism

Part 3
As a junior sustainability consultant, you have been asked by your line
manager to write a report applying the principles of sustainable and
responsible tourism management to a chosen case study.
You should identify a suitable small tourism business/attraction that would
form the basis of the ‘case study’. It is recommended that the attraction is
relatively new and within a reasonable distance to allow for onsite visits if
possible. It would be helpful if the attraction had a good internet site, is
popular with tourists/visitors and that the owners/proprietors are aware of the
concept and importance of sustainability.
If possible, it is essential that you make contact with the attraction to find out
if the owner/proprietors are willing to cooperate in formulating a case study
based upon their business.
You should provide a suitable title for your report. Specifically, the report
should include the following:
• An investigation of the impacts of tourism activity generated by a
specific tourism attraction from an economic, social, cultural and
environmental perspective
• An examination of how principles of sustainability implemented by a
specific tourism business/attraction meet stakeholder requirements and
expectations
• An analysis of the contribution made by various stakeholders in
developing sustainable tourism practices to minimise the adverse
impacts of a specific tourism business/attraction
• A critical analysis of the value and importance of stakeholder
engagement and partnerships in minimising adverse impacts to meet
overall sustainable objectives.

Assessment decisions:
