Your Writing Process-Fiction
Write a paragraph reflecting on the process of composing and revising your fiction draft:
Which step did you find easiest?
Which step did you find hardest?
What have you learned from the process of writing this fiction piece?
What will you do differently when writing a piece in the future?
Your posts should be thoughtful, substantial, and properly proofread before posting. Each post should advance the conversation and share insights.
Discussion Requirements:
The initial post must be between 300-350 words in length and is due by 11:59 PM EST on Thursday.
Week Two Discussion 2
Rewriting Your Beginning:
For many writers, the first draft of a story’s beginning is just an attempt to figure out how to get started or its the introduction to the story you originally planned to write, but maybe not the story you ended up with by the time your first draft was complete. This discussion board offers an opportunity to revisit that beginning. Please cut and paste the beginning of your story to a separate document. For this exercise, you are asked to write two additional (different) beginnings to your fiction draft. Play around with perspectives, dialogue, setting, etc. You are free to implement whatever changes you want but I encourage you to experiment with the various techniques you learned from your readings this week. The key is to end up with three very different beginnings (the original one and then the two new versions).
Once completed, post your original beginning in one discussion post.
Post your two new introductions in two separate discussion posts. You will have a total of three initial posts.
Your reply to peers will consist of your “liking” whichever of their beginnings you feel most effective and then offering a brief response as to why you chose that particular version.
NOTE THAT YOUR REPLY TO PEERS IS DUE ON SATURDAY FOR THIS BOARD INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL SUNDAY. This is to give your peers time to implement changes to their revised draft in response to feedback from peers.

Week Two Assignment 1: Fiction Revision (Creative Writing Draft Revision)
Continue work on your fiction draft this week. Utilize the comments from the professor and your peers to develop, clarify, add to, and revise your fiction draft.
When you submit your Revised Draft on Sunday please highlight all of the changes you implemented between your draft and your revision so as to clearly demonstrate the adjustments that occurred as a result of the revision process.
Assignment Requirements:
This assignment should be a minimum of 1000 words in length, using Times New Roman size 12pt font and double spacing.
Submit the assignment no later than Sunday 11:59 PM EST
Week Two Discussion: Peer Review
Participate in peer review groups reviewing and offering feedback on classmates’ fiction. Complete your review and comments by Thursday, 11:59 PM EST so the final revisions and proofing can be implemented by the writer.
The Critiquing the Writing of Others lecture as well as the Strategies For Success video lecture outline best approaches for peer review. Make sure to read and watch those lectures before going any further. After having done that, look a little more closely at the specifics of how you can approach peer review.
In terms of what particulars to be looking for when reviewing a work of fiction, look no further than the Elements of Fiction we covered last week. Think about “The Cask of Amontillado” and how the different Elements of Fictions were shown to be working in the story. When engaging in peer review of a work of fiction you should approach your peers’ work in a similar manner. Ask yourself how they’re employing each of the key elements. Base your feedback no how you see them employing each, is each element working within the narrative?
Are the elements of the plot on clear display?
Is the setting well established?
Are the characters clearly developed?
What is the narrator/point-of-view and does that particular choice seem most effective for telling this particular story?
How are symbols employed in the narrative?
Is there a clear theme – how do you know, where is it made apparent/how might it be more apparent?
Which Elements are most successful? Which Element (or Elements) might they more heavily emphasize or address?
Here are the steps for providing your feedback for the peer review assignment:
Your instructor will assign you fiction drafts from 1-3 peers to review.
Click the DISCUSSION BOARD link in the Main Menu.
Scroll down and click on the Week Two Peer Review link.
Find the thread associated with your assigned peer and click on their name.
Read the attached draft and then Reply to the thread.
Compose a response that addresses the bulleted peer review questions.
When you’ve completed your peer review, click Submit.
Assignment Requirements:
This assignment should be a minimum of 750 words in length, using Times New Roman size 12pt font and double spacing.
Submit the assignment no later than Thursday at 11:59 PM EST

Find communities that hold such an event and explore what it typically entails.
Prepare a flyer for one in your community.
In the flyer, announce what presentations and displays you will have along with the reason for the event.
Your flyer should contain only text in the form of a Word document.
Week Two Assignment 2: Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse

Pick a state and research who is a mandatory reporter of child abuse and validate your answer.
Your assignment should include:
Name of the state
Identity of a mandatory reporter of child abuse for that state
State statute validating your finding
