Write a report of 1000 words of the project interview that aims to familiarize you with the culture and food habits of unfamiliar cultures through interviews with 2 recent immigrants (from 2 different countries) to the United States. You will discuss the immigrants’ food choices and preparation, behaviors, symbolism, and traditional cultural celebrations or ceremonies. You will also learn how the experiences of immigration have affected the food culture of the immigrants. You will summarize your findings by discussing the similarities and differences between the two food cultures. Through the assignment, you will broaden your knowledge of food culture and how immigration and contemporary life in the U.S. can affect food cultures. You will then write a report of the information obtained from the interviews (described below). I will provide all the documents related to.
You must interview 2 people, each from a different culture with which you are unfamiliar, and not your own culture. The people you interview must be immigrants to the U.S. This means that they must have spent some of their life living and experiencing their native food culture, and be able to compare that experience to their experience since coming to the U.S. You may choose classmates, co-workers, neighbors, friends of a friend, or other acquaintances. It’s best to choose people who are fairly recent immigrants, interested in food culture, and eager to share information with you. When interviewing them, ask the 16 questions on the next page, which are non-threatening, concrete, but in-depth questions about their cultural background. If your interviewee(s) can’t answer all the questions, you are expected to find the answers yourself. Report Your report of the interviews will be written in narrative format, be 4 pages (1000 words) long, and include information to summarize both interviews plus a comparison of the two food cultures. In your report of the interview, you are to summarize the results of the questions. The report should include the date, duration, and place of the interviews.
