7HURM008W Assessment Briefing

The Assessment

You work as the HR Manager for a small manufacturing company based in the UK. Your firm is planning to expand its operations globally by setting up subsidiary operations first of all in Germany and the USA.

The Board of Directors has asked you to prepare three short guidance notes providing advice to address the following issues:

Guidance Note 1: Sustainability (750 words)

The firm is concerned that the provision of global mobility support given to these expatriates meets its sustainability/green credentials. Provide advice on how the content of the expatriate support policy can help to reduce the firm’s carbon footprint, setting your response within the framework of corporate social responsibility.

Guidance Note 2: Expatriate diversity (750 words)

The firm plans to use expatriates from the UK to set up its operations and lead key functions in the two overseas locations. It is envisaged that six expatriates will be selected from existing staff in the UK, three to be deployed in each of the two countries abroad. Provide advice on the factors that the Board needs to consider, ensuring that its values of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are upheld in the expatriate deployment process, setting your response within the framework of intersectionality.

Guidance Note 3: Comparative HRM (750 words)

The firm is wary of the potential impact of contrasting systems of HRM in Germany and the USA. Report to the Board on the main similarities and differences between them, paying particular attention to any two variables of your choice (e.g., HRM systems of recruitment, selection, promotion, etc).

Guidance Note 3: comparative HRM (750 words)

Put simply, to answer the question, you need to compare ANY TWO aspects of HRM across Germany and the USA. We have devised a simple worksheet so you can visualise what you are expected to do. You should not submit this table as your Guidance Notes. You are, naturally, expected to support your comparison with evidence and reasons.
