PART 1: CHOOSE A SCENE FROM ANY TELEVISION PROGRAM OR ONLINE VIDEO. It could be a comedy, a news report, a drama, a series, a commercial, a documentary. Any television or video (try to not choose a movie/film, stick to TV or online videos).
Provide a link to the scene at the top of your paper.
1. Provide a brief paragraph of what the scene is about and who the target audience might be.
2. What signs or meanings can be interpreted from the representations in the scene (blatant and subtle?)
3. How is the scene positive (has prosocial value?) and how is it negative (stereotypes?)
4. Who is the target audience for this scene or show? Who benefits from its narrative? Who is disadvantaged by it? PART 2: FLIP THE SCENE Flip the scene by choosing 2 of the following scenarios and then writing a brief analysis of what the scene would be like if: 1. you changed the gender of the characters in the scene
2. you changed the race/ethnicity of the characters in the scene
3. you changed the age of the characters (making them 20 years older or younger) 4. you changed the sexual orientation of the characters (yes, I realize assumptions will have to be made here)
5. you changed the socio-economics of the scene
6. you change the time of the scene (pick any decade you’d like)
