Extended Essay: Study skills for selecting focused IB
Most Extended Essay problems start with a question that is too broad. Here’s how to narrow it before you write a word.
The Extended Essay has a 4,000-word limit and is graded A to E. Together with Theory of Knowledge it can add up to three points to your diploma score.
Narrow it down
A good research question is specific enough to answer in 4,000 words with evidence you can actually get. If your question needs a book to answer, narrow it.
Write the question, then ask: what evidence would answer this? If you can’t list it, rewrite the question.Margin note from Aisha
Use your reflections
Your reflection sessions with your supervisor are assessed. Keep notes after each meeting so the reflections show how your thinking changed.
