Challenges Facing the Older Adult Prison Population and a Biblical Response
After reading chapter 9 in your textbook and the articles “Aging Offenders in the Criminal Justice System,” “Aging Prison Populations Drive Up Costs,” and “Reports on Elderly Prisoners Spur Call for Reforms,” write a five- to six-page paper analyzing one or more of the following:
Providing (and paying for) adequate health care programs for older adult inmates.
Compassionate and early release of older adult inmates
The impact of the FIRST STEP Act and other sentencing reform laws on the older adult prison population.
In your paper, include a biblical response on how Christians working in the criminal justice profession can balance compassion while upholding the law when dealing with the older adult prison population.
As you address at least one of the key topics listed, go beyond your opinion and analyze findings from at least five peer-reviewed journal articles that address the complex issues facing older adult inmates.
